Installation
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's electrical junction box, which is located behind the driver's-side tail light. You will have to lift the storage lid in your cargo area and remove the panel on the driver's side to access this junction box. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, insert the 10-amp, low-profile fuse in position 2 and the 7.5-amp fuse in position 11 of the junction box (as shown below).
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.
Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.
Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Just finished installation, including 4 pin wire harness, took me about 1.5hrs, instructions were excellent.Hardest part was lifting hitch up for alignment underneath, an extra set of hands would have been nice. Installed this on our 2016 Acura MDX and couldn't have been more simple. I do recommend watching the installation video and you should be able to install this without even looking at the directions, but the printed instructions are pretty clear as well. This is a plug and play installation for my vehicle anyway and the testing LED worked well also. I chose to drop the harness down through the gromet in the floor pan instead of hanging it out under the tailgate for a cleaner installation but that is a personal preference. The entire installation took about 20 minutes.

This is a great easy to install, after market, flat 4 trailer wiring setup for the 2014 MDX. Installation was very simple and quick. I returned my Acura OEM part once I verified this was working. The Acura part cost three times as much as this part. If you need brake wiring setup, you will need the Acura part.

HI Mike,I also have a 2014 MDX and have ordered the Curt hitch and wiring harness. I called the Acura dealership to see if I needed the additional relay and they couldnt tell me. They could only tell me what was included in the Acura Trailer Hitch Kit. Am I correct in your comment above that you didnt need it? Did you have to get the brake wiring set up from Acura?thanks, becky

The T Connector Vehicle wiring harness works perfectly. I installed it so I can use a bike rack light fixture. The installation video was easy to follow!

If you own an 2014-2017 ACURA, MDX, this is the simplest install imaginable. It took 20 minutes to install it and check it out. Only thing that was a little confusing was the extra parts and literature that are not needed for this modification. But really, just follow the instructions and you are done in a snap.

Cannot find a better set of wires.
This is a great plug and play product...great instructions with great photos. One complaint I might have is the little black box came with a double sided sticky pad that even though I cleaned the metal surface for, it won’t stick so for now I zip ties it to a body wiring harness. The harness won’t be needed very often in this case. They wanted the hitch more for hauling bicycles on a carrier. But when they do they will have to drape it out through the hatch. If you want to have the plug outside near the hitch you will have to find a place to run it through the body on yourself. The wiring on this harness is very good quality. Very similar to OEM, the connector too!

I bought a Curt hitch for my 2016 Acura MDX and it fit perfectly. Also bought a Curt T-Connector Wiring Harness with 4 pole Flat Trailer Connector and, following the simple instructions, installation was quick and simple. I'm happy to recommend etrailer.com.
Website was great---easy to determine what wiring was needed and how to install. Shipped quickly and arrived with hitch in 4 days. Instructional video on how to install was well done and easy to follow. Only comment would be on the ground wire.....I found a ground stud that was much easier to get to on my '15 MDX, than what was shown in the video. Found one on the frame on the side of the bumper and the ground wire was able to reach it. etrailer has been great.
This Curt harness is the easiest install on trailer wiring I've ever done. The instructions were vehicle specific and very detailed. Of course the MDX is set up with a connector on a fuse panel that is made to accept trailer wiring so that makes Curt's job very easy but none the less it's a great product.

Sold the vehicle where it was originally installed but purchased a 2018 same vehicle and installed one in the new one as well. Installation was exactly the same on the 2018 and product works well.
