This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side interior trim panels in your rear cargo area. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.
Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Today we're going to be taking a look at Part Number C56048. This is the Curt T-Connector vehicle wiring harness. It's going to provide your 4-pull flat trailer connector. This product is going to fit your 2006 to 2012 Ford Fusion. It's going to provide your 4-way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer signal lights. This is compatible with 5-pole, 6-pole and 7-pole adapters.
Adapters are sold separately. And it's going to come with the dust cap for the 4-way flat connector, that way you can cover up those connection points when your plug is not being used. The black box right here, this is going to be the included powered taillight converter. This is going to connect directly to the vehicle battery through the wiring to avoid overloading the vehicle's electrical system. It's going to be constructed using surface-mount technology, which is going to offer consistent, reliable performance. What that does is it maximizes the trailer light yield and intensity while producing minimal heat, and it's going to ensure superior operation even in rough-road conditions. Now, a benefit of a system like this is that it's designed to connect very quickly and easily.
It's going to come with your detailed instructions. These are going to walk you through the installation process step-by-step, but you'll need to begin by locating the connection points in the rear cargo area. You're going to have two sets of connectors. This set with the green wire, that's going to go to the passenger side of the vehicle. The set with the yellow and brown, that's going to go to the driver's side of the vehicle.
Again, this is a custom-fit vehicle wiring harness, so the plugs are going to match up perfectly with the plugs on the vehicle. You're going to plug them into one another, and then they're going to snap-lock together for a nice, tight, secure fit. So once you have those plugged in, you'll need to make your ground connection. That's going to be your white wire with the ring terminal attached to it. They provide a self-tapping screw so you can get that grounded to a nice, clean metal surface. And then you're going to need to mount the converter box to a clean, out of the way location.
You can do that using the double-sided adhesive tape provided with the kit. The next step is going to be to run the hot lead to the vehicle battery. The hot lead is going to be the black wire coming out of the converter box. You're going to attach a butt connector on to it. It is included. And then you're going to connect it to the bundle of black wire. The other end of the black wire goes up to the vehicle battery. It gets another butt connector attached to it, and that's going to connect to one-half of the fuse holder. The other half of the fuse holder gets a ring terminal attached to it, and that's going to get connected to the positive post on the vehicle battery. It does come with your 10-amp fuse. It goes right in this area here and it's got the fuse cap to keep it protected. So once you have all that done, you can go and secure any excess or slack in the wiring with the included zip ties. and then once the installation is complete, the 4-way connector is going to be stowed in an out of the way location within the cargo area. When it comes to the maximum amperage for the stop and turn lights, we're looking at 3 amps per circuit, and for the taillights we're looking at 6 amps per circuit. It's also recommended that you use a small amount of dielectric grease on all your electrical connections like the plugs on the vehicle and the 4-pole connector itself, and that's going to help prevent corrosion from settling into those connection points. Powered converter reduces strain on wiring system and is made using SMT to ensure superior performance.After researching my vehicle and viewing the etrailer instructional videos, I decided to go ahead and do the install myself. I’d classify my skills as slightly above novice for car maintenance and repairs but I’ve never tackled a wiring install before. The product was exactly as advertised, exactly measured and specific to my car. The install took just a bit more than the time on the website, but that’s only because I’m very particular about things like ‘neatness ‘. Overall, I’d recommend this product and would order from etrailer again.
You supply a 12 ga BLACK wire to hook to the positive terminal of the battery.
I'm under the impression that when dealing with vehicle wiring, usually black wires are ground.,and definitely RED wires are 12v .
Maybe you should start sending RED wire to attach to the positive terminal of the battery.
That way if anyone is working on the vehicle (not near the battery) , they know the wire is HOT

The wiring harness was very easy to install with the instructions it took about 45 minutes to complete.
Great product. The only way to go if installing a hitch. Simple plug in and your done. If installing on a Fusion, the route for the battery wire was the hardest thing to install.
