Troubleshooting Curt Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2007 Ford Fusion that Stopped Working
Question:
I bought and installed the curt wiring harness 4years ago And trailered a small boat for 800 miles no problem. hadnt used the harness since and now I hooked up the same boat and trailer and it wont work . Checked it with a meter and it is bleeding thru 4volts or less even with the lights off and ignition off. It is not the trailer since I connected 2 other vehicles to it and the trailer lights work perfectly fine! I checked out the ground pretty thoroughly and it seems fine. tHe harness was stored in the trunk and is not abused. Any thoughts?

It sounds like the converter box of the Curt Wiring harness part # C56048 that you installed on your 2007 Ford Fusion has shorted out. Typically when we see a harness that has a small amount of voltage present on one of the pins the reason is that the box has shorted out. To test the wiring harness to be sure if the harness has shorted out check out the video I attached on the subject.
I also attached an FAQ on troubleshooting 4-way installs for you to check out as well.
