Note: BOLT locks permanently code to only 1 vehicle. They cannot be re-coded or re-keyed.
Are you tired of carrying a bulky ring of keys - for your hitch lock and coupler lock, your pickup cover or trailer door, and all the various padlocks securing your equipment? Tired of fumbling for the right key or having to replace a lost key?
BOLT (Breakthrough One-key Lock Technology) has solved that problem by designing a line of locks that can operate with a key you already have handy - your vehicle ignition key.
When you insert your own key into the cylinder, spring-loaded plate tumblers move up and down until they are matched exactly to that key. The first time the key is rotated, the cylinder is uniquely coded to that key. When the key is removed, the cylinder moves into the locked position. When the key is turned again, it will rotate to the unlocked position.
BOLT is particularly useful in commercial applications. Imagine being able to send a crew without having to sign out multiple keys for a work truck, trailer, hitch pins, and equipment locks. With BOLT, the vehicle key becomes a master key. It opens all those locks and you no longer have the hassle of getting to a work site only to find that you've brought the wrong keys.

Today we're going to be taking a look at the BOLT Covered Padlock with the 2 inch shackle, part number is BL7018520. This lock is designed to code to your Chrysler, Dodge or Jeep vehicle ignition key. It's made of automotive grade materials and nearly impossible to pick or bump. It's a corrosion resistant lock that helps keep your trailer and equipment safe and secure. On our enclosed trailer here, we're able to secure all of our doors and if you come up here to the front with me, even our coupler, using the same style lock, it's going to be keyed the same, so we always have our key with us when we need it. The lock uses the B O L T, or the BOLT technology, which is the break through one lock technology. That allows one key to operate every lock on our vehicle, that being the ignition key for our car.
Simply just slide our Chrysler key out of our key fob, we'll place it in the automotive grade lock. As you can see, it's got a stainless steel cover there. It uses a 6 side bar tumbler, so picking is virtually impossible. It's a cast zinc alloy cylinder, so very corrosion resistant as well as the chrome plating shackle here. It's really going to stand up to the test of time. We've got a hard rubber case, as you can see, all the way around the lock, makes it virtually crush proof, so we're not going to have to worry about anybody coming in with a big piece of equipment, crushing it, getting our stuff out of the inside.
Our ignition key will just slide right in, click turn, that's all there is to it. As you can see, there's a, not just a single, but we have a double D-tent, so we've got a double ball bearing lock on it. When the key is removed, it automatically locks, so we don't have to worry about it. Let's take a look at how to get this keyed to your vehicle's ignition key. With the physical ignition key in our hand, we're just going to slide it right into the tumbler, turn it fully around, back it off. As you can see, our lock's locked up.
Now it just takes a simple turn of our ignition key to unlock that. One thing to keep in mind with your lock, you don't want to do any test runs, you don't want to do any practices with the key other than the one you intend to use on a day to day basis. Once we have this keyed to our Chrysler key, that's all there is to it. We won't be able to change this to a different set up. That will complete today's look at the BOLT Covered Padlock with the 2 inch shackle, made right here in the United States and designed to fit Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep keys. Part number is BL7018520.

This heavy-duty padlock codes to your vehicle's ignition key. Made of automotive-grade materials and nearly impossible to pick or bump, this corrosion-resistant lock helps keep your trailer and equipment safe and secure. These are nice locks. 2 Years in and the lock mechanisms still operate smoothly. Use these for hitch lock, toy hauler ramp door locks, receiver pin lock, and cable lock for my surge protector. It's very nice having all the locks keyed the same. And since it's keyed to my towing vehicle key I never have to worry about forgetting the keys. I always have the right key when pulling with my truck!
I have used the Bolt lock system for about 3 years. I ordered the first ones directly from the manufacturer. I have the padlocks and a j bolt for securing our TT hitch. I needed more padlocks and found they were now available through distributors. I chose to use etrailer because they have an excellent reputation for a large inventory and especially service. I really like the Bolt system because I can key them to my truck key and the quality of the products.
Great product. I liked it so well that I bought the 5/8” x 2-1/2” hitch pin lock. Now I know when my travel trailer is hooked to my truck that I always have the keys to unlock it in my pocket and not left at home!!!
Product concept is awesome. Just wish there was an option for a shorter shackle.
This is an excellent heavy duty padlock. It works with the ignition key of my vehicle, eliminating the need for another key. However, you have to use a key--a fob will not operate it.

Great. Nice having one key to operate all the locks. They are strong and rugged.
Expensive but really a good investment. With locks on hitch (3) propane tanks (2) tire cable (1) gas can (1) and likely some I’ve overlooked.... having them all keyed to match my jeep is a huge plus. Ever lose a key 100miles out in the desert? Not me!
Great lock. I was suprised on how easy it was to key the lock to your vehicle. It took all of 2 minutes if that to do. Now i can eliminate keys from my key ring and lighten my weight in my pocket. I have since bought the BOLT brand locks for all of my tool boxes keyed to my truck and wow its great to have one key that does it all. I recomend this lock to anyone that has a ton of keys on your key ring.
Keeps the trailer secure while hitch up and also secure while not hitched. Great to never have to look for a key. Working great still after one year.
Convenient just as the cable locks due to only needing one key for all. Will also be using this in the bed of my truck for securing items.
With this and other BOLT products, I am able to use only one key for all locks. By not having multiple keys for all of the locks, I don’t have to remember to carry any extra keys, and the key that I need is always at hand.
Product works as advertised. Very convenient. I already have thought of other uses for the BOLT lock.
