Recommended Enclosed Trailer Lighting for 22 Foot Work Trailer

Question:

I recently bought a enclosed trailer to work out of. It needs a few lights. I would love to run something that I can wire into my truck some how. I have a 7 prong rv type plug. Is there something that I can switch on and use the truck batteries to run it. The tow vehicle is a 2017 ram 3500 Cummins. I ordered it with a 200amp alt so I would have power. It’s a 8.5 x22 trailer so I was thinking four lights. The truck has two batteries but I’m not sure the plug is hot all the time like when truck is not running. I know that the power to rear cigeratte plug in is hot all the time in rear but only hot in front when truck acc is on. Thank you.

For your enclosed trailer, I recommend you use the Optronics LED RV Interior Light with Switch - 18 Diodes # RVILL34. This light has the equivalent of a 60 watt incandescent bulb. I've attached a video that shows 3 of these lighting up an RV so you have a reference. Each light only draws 0.6 amps at 12.8 volts. So you will have lots of time without draining your truck battery.

If your 12V power to your 7-way is connected to your accessory on your ignition, sometimes they are and sometimes they are not, then I recommend running a separate wire from your battery using # 10-1-1 and circuit breaker # 9510. You can either replace the 12V connection on your 7-way or run a separate plug like # PK12-707E for just that feature. That power will go to the 1 o'clock pin position. I've attached an article to assist.

You will want to monitor your power draw to ensure you don't have a dead starting battery when you go to start your truck. With your dual battery and strong alternator along with small LED amperage draw you shouldn't have an issue, but it is still wise to check your battery every few hours as you get used to your setup.
