First, you should check the owners manual of your 2011 Subaru Outback Limited to be sure that tire chains are recommended for your vehicle and tire size and that there is not a Class size recommendation the you should be aware of. Many newer vehicles require Class S chains which can be no larger than 15mm for side wall clearance.
The Thule CB12 Snow Tire Chains, part # TH01221104, will work on the 225/60R17 tire size and they have an internal clearance of 12mm, which will make them a Class S compatible snow chain. These snow chains also have the cam tension adjusters which will allow you to easily adjust the tension that is needed to keep the chains tight on the tire.
Another recommendation for the 225/60R17 tire size is the Thule CS10 Snow Tire Chains, part # TH2004125104. These snow chains come with the icebreaker reinforcements for added traction on ice. They also have a self-centering and self-tensioning system for easy installation and a perfect fit. They also have an internal clearance of 10mm which will classify them as Class S snow chains.
All four wheels can be chained to provide extra stability as long as the vehicles owner manual does not indicate chains cannot be used on all 4 wheels.
If using snow chains on only one axle, on an All Wheel Drive vehicle, you will want to install them on the main drive wheels. If the All Wheel Drive is evenly split on your vehicle you can put them on the rear wheels.
I am including a link to a FAQ page on snow tire chain information and video links on reviews of the Thule snow chains.
