Correct Wiring Harness For 2008 Ford Escape Limited With Backup Sensors

Question:

2008 Ford Escape Limited 3.0 Part # 118251 I have backup sensors on my escape, it did not come with a trailer hitch. I do have all the relays and fuses under the hood. When i unpluged the backup sensor harness which has 10 pins, only 6 are used for the backup sensors i checked to see if the other pins work and they do, i have power, turnsignals and ground. I just wanted to make sure this part 118251 will plug directly into the factory backup sensor harness and work for towingit seems like it will. If so great, but how come no one makes a adapter harness so both can work at the same time. Obivously you would turn off the sensors when backing up with a trailer so you dont here the beeping noise. It seems like there is no shared pins for each system.

The item you selected Tow Package Wiring Harness, part # 118251, will not work on vehicles equipped with backup sensors.

You would need to use the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness, part # 118551, which draws power for your trailer lighting directly from your vehicle battery instead of the electrical system. You will need to plug part # 118551 directly into the vehicle wiring behind each tail light and then run the included wire and make a connection to the battery via included in-line fuse. This harness can plug into your vehicle harness and still allow you to use your backup sensors.

For a trailer hitch for your 2008 Ford Escape, I would recommend etrailer Class III 2 Inch Hitch, part # e56AR.

To complete your towing setup you will need a draw bar, hitch ball, pin and clip.

For a draw bar, I would recommend Curt Ball Mount, part # C45010, which can be used as a 3/4 rise or 2 inch drop. You will need to measure your vehicle and trailer to determine how much of a rise or drop you need (see FAQ).

For a hitch ball depending on the size or trailer coupler you will need 1-7/8 Inch Hitch Ball, part # 19260, or 2 Inch Hitch Ball, part # 19247.

For a Pin and Clip, you will need Pin and Clip, part # PC3, for added security you could use Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock, part # e98880.

I have linked instructions for the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness, part # 118551.
