Rear Suspension Support

SumoSprings helper springs are great for RVs or motor homes. Heavy rear loads can cause sag as your factory suspension compresses under the weight of the load. This means that the rear axle is trying to support not only the extra load but also the motor home's weight. And because there is less weight on your front axle, your front tires make less contact with the road, which causes problems with traction, steering, and braking. SumoSprings upgrade your vehicle's factory suspension to level your vehicle, improve driving performance, and keep your ride comfortable.

SumoSprings diagram of installation above existing vehicle spring

Each spring in this kit is bolted to two mounting brackets. One bracket is attached to the frame of your vehicle, and the other bracket is attached to the axle, typically above your existing factory leaf spring. Because each helper spring is in full contact at the top and bottom of the suspension's travel, the expanding and contracting action of the SumoSprings enhances your ride under all conditions, not just when it's loaded. And the closed-cell urethane springs act like a shock absorber to dampen road vibration.

SumoSprings compressing under load

SumoSprings provide progressive load control - the more you load them, the stiffer they become. With a lighter load, the springs will compress easily for soft engagement and a less bumpy ride. The springs can also compress by as much as 80 percent to support a heavy rear load and to help your factory suspension bear up under the load. This evens out the weight, which levels your vehicle and ensures that your front tires are making better contact with the road. A level ride means that you have improved driving control, ensures safe headlight aim, and helps to minimize sway. The springs also support your factory suspension, which helps prevent sagging and reduces bottoming out.

The springs work independently from one another to support each side of your vehicle. This action helps to reduce body roll when you make a sharp turn. This also helps compensate for an off-center load.

SumoSprings expanding to allow play in the suspension

These springs extend in height by as much as 50 percent to allow more movement in your suspension when you're traveling unloaded, making your ride smoother and more comfortable.

Durable, Custom-Fit Springs

These microcellular urethane springs are tough. They resist abrasion, oil, salt, and UV rays that can more quickly wear out other springs, and they perform well in temperatures ranging from -25 F to 200 F (-33 C to 93 C).

SumoSprings expand and compress vertically with minimum expansion to the sides, so they won't be damaged by nearby mechanical parts and they fit safely into tighter spots. And unlike air springs, SumoSprings require no maintenance or adjustment.

This kit comes with custom-fit brackets that are designed to easily bolt onto your vehicle.

As always, eTrailer service and delivery was flawless for me on these SumoSprings for my 2021 WBGO Adventurer 29B Class A. Installation was done by a local WBGO dealer, who noted that it was easy and relatively quick to accomplish. My reason for getting the SumoSprings was to reduce rear body sway in turns and due to wind buffeting. For this, they seem to work well -- there is noticeably less sway now than before -- which is more confidence-inspiring and takes some of the effort out of dealing with passing trucks or brisk gusts of wind (especially from the side). However, as with any suspension modification that effectively stiffens the suspension, the sway reduction is accompanied by a somewhat harsher ride. This is especially noted when crossing bumps, train tracks, and expansion joints. For me, it's an acceptable compromise, after all, the RV is still a truck and will always ride and handle like one.

One year later, Ive put about 15,000 miles on our MH since installing the rear Sumo Springs. Still working well as I stated above.

by:
2006 Winnebago Sightseer Motorhome

not too bad to install. Did them in couple hours in my driveway

by:

Excellent product. Self installed. Glad I did

by:

Install was straightforward enough that only basic DIY skill is needed. Overall very happy with how the rig rides now. Sway is greatly reduced.

2017 Ford F-53

I did a fair amount of research on how to make my Winnebago Sunstar motorhome handle better. Cheap handling fix was one action I took. But still the motorhome had lots of rebound when traveling over bumpy roads. I decided to install Sumo springs front and rear. I installed them myself with instructions and videos from the manufacturer and etrailer.com. A trip to the coast (about 100 miles) had me smiling from ear to ear! They worked as advertised and made the drive a lot more enjoyable. I highly recommend Sumo springs and etrailer.com!

Winnebago

We own a Winnebago 26HE and installed SUMO SUPER SPRINGS (item # SSR-184-40-1). The SUMO SPRINGS made a 90% improvement in handling and drivability of the vehicle. They all but eliminated the wind side push from passing semis and substantially reduced the effect of wind blowing from the side. I highly recommend this product.

Roadmaster

I ordered front and rear roadmaster sway bars, front and rear sumo springs and a Roadmaster steering stabilizer for my 2019 Winnebago Vista 29VE after I picked it up several weeks ago. The drive home was a nightmare trying to keep it on the road. I received all the parts in good shape except the rear sway bar came in with the package all beat up and only had the sway bar not any of the other needed brackets and bolts. I called etrailer and explained the situation, sent pictures of the box and they mailed ma a whole new set immediately not even waiting for UPS to pick up the original one. My son and I installed all of them in my driveway and what a difference! The RV is now sound going down the road even in cross winds and large trucks passing by. Thank you etrailer.

Ford F-250 Super Duty

Same review as the front springs. Recommend there springs for any coach without air ride. These took the ride of our 2022 Coachman from that of an empty dump truck to as good of ride as my Ford F-250 SuperDuty. etrailer really know the products and can help you find anything you are needing. I did not remove tires to do this project and because it does not have self leveling to pick the coach I had to work one spring at a time using jacks and jack stands.I.

2016 Ford F-53

Purchased these SumoSpings from etrailer.com who where fantastic, helpful, and friendly throughout this transaction. Can't say enough about how they did everything they could to ensure the purchase and shipping of the product took place in a timely manner.

The SumoSprings themselves are great, truly smooths out the ride, increases the stability, and reduces the amount of road jarring that takes place with our 2016 Jayco Precept. The installation is easy enough that most anyone can do it. Although they do leave out a couple of important things to note/steps to take, but most anyone with a little common sense can figure it out. Well worth the investment.

Winnebago

First time using etrailor. Very satisfied. Very helpful customer service when ordering. Item received quickly and with all parts. Had the SumoSprings installed ... Wow! Huge difference in my ride, a 31 ft Winnebago. Stable, and much easier to steer. Seems to have quieted down much of the rattling, probably because of the much sturdier ride. Extremely satisfied, and highly recommend.

by:
2019 Coachmen Pursuit Motorhome

Seems to ride a bit better on the 80 mile test run.

by:

Definitely helped the ride with a 80% improvement overall in road smoothness. Would also recommend the cab sway bars and steering anti sway bar too.

by:
Roadmaster

I ordered the SumoSprings and Roadmaster Anti-sway bars front and rear. Install was straight forward and results were better that expected.

by:

The SumoSprings made a big difference in the handling of our motorhome and significantly reduced the body roll.

by:

Wow!! You guys and specifically Roger were fantastic!
RV Dealership in our town told us 7-10 days before they could get the sumo springs. Called Roger on Wed morning received our sumo springs 48 hours later with Free shipping! And 200 dollars less then what the RV Dealership quoted us, thank you etrailer and thank you Roger.

Received in good condition and no surprises on the install

by:

This review goes with the one for the front springs. Very happy with this product. Made the ride of our motorhome so much better.

by:

Great service

by:

Really like the feel these give in taking away the sway of the RV! They are a bit complicated to install (we are very mechanically experienced) but not impossible. I suggest removing the wheels to give access for drilling the necessary holes. Overall I'm very happy with my purchase!!

by:

I ordered the Sumo for my 2118 Jayco Alante and it arrived in two days. Everything needed was in the box. I installed and could IMMEDAITLY tell A vast improvement in ride and handling. Not terribly hard to install if you have the right tools and a helper.

Over all--money well spent!!

by:

Thank you. I love the Sumo Springs

Easy install well worth the money

On your 2015 Thor ACE motorhome on Ford F53 chassis, the size of the vehicle often will have the effects you mentioned. The best solution is to add Anti-sway bars and a steering stabilizer. I recommend adding the Roadmaster Rear Anti-Sway Bar for Motor Homes # RM-1139-145 first as the rear sway is what you feel the most when crosswinds and passing semi trucks come and this model is the correct fit for your vehicle weight.
