  • 12v Pin on 7-way Trailer Connector on 2020 Ford F350 Not Putting Out Power
A few years ago, Ford started equipping their trucks with the so-called 'smart' trailer connectors. The 12 volt feed on the trailer connector won't supply power unless the following conditions are met: • Ignition is on with vehicle running • Vehicle senses that a trailer is plugged in • The brake pedal has been pressed at least once during the current ignition cycle I wasn't able to find how the vehicle 'knows' whether a trailer is plugged in, it could be looking for a draw from a trailer...

  • Could MaxxFan Deluxe Roof Vent Be Powered from Trailer Wiring and Not Drain Battery When Off
To power the MaxxFan Deluxe Roof Vent part # MA00-07500K through trailer wiring you'd use the 12 volt accessory circuit normally which on some vehicles stays active when the vehicle is off but sometimes turns off. You'd have to test this circuit on your vehicle with a circuit tester like part # PTW2997 to see if it stays active when the vehicle is off. On a 7-way the circuit you are looking for is in the 1:00 position. If it's active all the time you could use the part # PK5231201 to...

  • Using Battery Isolation Solenoid to Preventing Trailer Battery from Draining Vehicle Battery
You'd want to install the battery isolation solenoid part # PK5231201 on the vehicle side of the wiring so that you'd have access to a keyed circuit to allow the 12 volts only to be active when key is on. To do this on the trailer side of the wiring would require you to be a bit more creative. You could use the running light circuit as the activation circuit so that only when the headlights or running lights are on the battery would charge.

  • Will the Battery Isolation Solenoid Use Fuse or Circuit Breaker In-Line?
The Battery Isolation Solenoid # PK5231201 will keep the trailer battery from continuing to draw power from the vehicle battery when connected. The power is only transferred when 12V power is active on the center post with the 12v sticker. You can use any power source like the running light circuit to allow power to flow. I recommend using a circuit breaker like # PK54540 on that wire. Another option is to use a disconnect like the Epicord Battery Disconnect Switch with Key - 50 Amp...

  • Is a Battery Isolator Needed When Using 7-Way Connector To Charge the Trailer Battery
You will need a battery isolator, like Battery Isolation Solenoid, part # PK5231201, if you plan on leaving the trailer connected to the truck when the truck is off. If you unplug the 7-Way, the trailer battery cannot drain the truck battery. If you leave them connected, you would need an isolator to keep the trailer from drawing down the truck battery. The isolation solenoid has three connections. If you are looking at the unit with the dome facing up and the 12v sticker right side up...

  • Battery Isolation Solenoid # PK5231201 Not Switching Off 12V Supply on 2004 Toyota Tundra
The Battery Isolation Solenoid you referenced, part # PK5231201, installs as you described: the 12V battery feed enters at the left-hand terminal; the center terminal connects with a fuse tap to one of the ignition-controlled circuits in the vehicle (such as the radio or powered antenna); the right-hand terminal is the 12V output to your camper battery. I have attached a photo showing these connection points, just for reference. I also pulled two samples from our stock and tested them both...

  • Is There Device to Prevent Vehicle Battery from Draining When Trailer Left Connected to Vehicle
The single diode part # RM-690 would not be the correct part you'd need to prevent your vehicle battery from draining since under normal circumstances the direction of current would be the same. Instead you'd want the part # PK5231201 which you can use as a way to prevent the circuit from being complete when the vehicle is off.

  • Can Running Light Circuit be Used with Battery Isolation Solenoid # PK5231201
If you are looking to use the Battery Isolation Solenoid, # PK5231201, on the running light circuit to possibly provide a maintenance charge to a battery on a trailer then yes, this can be done. Please keep in mind that the battery isolation solenoid will only be active when the running lights are on. If you are looking for a different set-up, please send me an email with additional details and I will be happy to help.

  • Using a Battery Isolating Solenoid to Shut Off Power to 12 Volt Circuit on a Trailer Connector
You can put the circuit breaker for the 12 volt power wire for # ETBC7 between the battery and the solenoid so that it is protecting the whole circuit. A note on the solenoid it is rated for 100 amps and the circuit breaker is rated for 40 amps. The breaker would trip long before the solenoid would fail so really if more than 40 amps was pulled on the 12 volt circuit it would not matter where the circuit breaker is placed relative to the solenoid. As you probably know, using the isolation...

  • Which Terminal On a Trailer Connector is Used to Maintain a Charge on the Trailer Battery
If you have a 6-Way connector, the center pin is the 12 volt power and is usually the pin that would be used for charging a trailer battery. If you have a 7-Way connector, the #4 terminal at the 1 oclock position is the 12 volt power terminal that would be used for charging. I am including a link to a FAQ page on wiring that will show the connectors and the functions of each terminal. When your trailer battery is connected to either of these terminals it will allow you to maintain a charge...

  • Is the 12 Volt Circuit On the Hopkins Multi-Tow Trailer Connector Adapter Active All the Time
The Hopkins Multi-Tow Trailer Connector Adapter part # HM47675 is just an adapter plug therefore would not determine the functionality of the 12 volt circuit. The functionality of the 12 volt circuit will vary by vehicle. It can either be on all the time or only on when the vehicle's accessory circuit is activated via the ignition. If you have a circuit tester you would be able to test this for yourself rather easily. The Hopkins Multi-Tow Trailer Connector Adapter would then retain the...

  • Should 12 Volt Power Circuit of 7-Way for Curt Echo be Keyed Power Source
Finding a keyed power source at the rear of a vehicle can be challenging but it comes down considering what accessories are at the rear of the vehicle which might use that type of power. Examples are power antennas, stereo amps, etc. So it might just be easier to run a power wire up to the IGN fuse for the center pin of the # PK5231201 or even to just have the 12 volt accessory circuit of the 7-way active all the time as that's the most common way the circuit is wired. The Curt Echo #...

  • Will Truck Bed Camper Battery Charge From Vehicles Battery via 7-way Connector
The vehicle battery will only provide a maintenance charge to the camper battery. It will not increase the camper battery charge level. When the camper connector is plugged into the vehicle, the vehicle's battery is supplying power to the camper, but it is not charging the camper's battery. The indicator light is likely coming on because of the power supply, not because of a charge. If you want to keep the camper plugged into the vehicle while the truck is off, I do recommend installing...

  • How to Wire 12V Battery in Enclosed Trailer to Power Trailer Lights Independent of 7-Way Connection
You are correct in your description of how to wire in a new auxiliary battery in your enclosed trailer. • Will Constant Power on 12 Volt Circuit After ETBC7 Installation Drain Vehicle Battery
Yes, after installing # ETBC7 you will have constant power on that circuit. The easiest solution is to just unplug the trailer from the vehicle. Having power at the connector without it going anywhere will not drain the vehicle battery. If you don't want to unplug the trailer every time you can easily add a battery isolator like # PK5231201. On the power wire, instead of running from the BAT post on the circuit breaker to the battery, you will run it to the output side of the isolator....

  • Solenoid Recommendation for Activating 12 Volt Circuit for Powering Inverter on Trailer

The outside posts would run from the battery to a wire to use for powering the lights/inverter.

  • Parts Needed to Charge a Trailer Battery for a Winch
First, the wiring on a trailer connector can provide a maintenance charge to a 12 volt battery on a trailer but it will not be able to fully charge it. The 12 volt circuit on a 7-Way is already circuit protected so a separate fuse or breaker should not be needed. There is a way you can provide a charge to the battery from the truck. You would need to equip the truck and trailer with separate single pole connectors independent of the 7-Way. For the trailer side, you would need Pollak Single-Pole,...

  • What Prevents RV Battery From Draining Tow Vehicle Battery When Vehicle Isnt Running
When you use an isolator like the part # PK5231201 what activates the solenoid to allow current to pass through is is the center pin of the solenoid. You run a keyed power source to this which allows the circuit only to be active and charging your trailer battery when you have the vehicle on. Refrigerators draw quite a bit of amperage so it would be nearly impossible to charge your battery enough while travelling through the 7-way while the fridge is also running.

  • Is A Battery Isolation Solenoid Needed When Installing The Curt C57674 Wiring Harness
As each of the indicator/test lights on the Curt # C57674 will be "powered" by each function, this would require an isolator for each wire and, unfortunately, there will be no other way to accomplish this. With that being said, it might also require splicing into the factory wiring. However, if you were just worried about power draw when the vehicle is off, the indicator/test lights will only work when that specific function is engaged, except the 12 volt power.
