Optronics MCL44 Series LED Side Marker Clearance Light Diagram

P2-Rated Lights

Diagram of light spread for P2 rated light

A P2-rated light produces a 45-degree angle of light to either side of its centerline for a total of 90 degrees of coverage. This beam pattern can be seen straight on, but it cannot be seen clearly from the side. So this type of light can be used as either a side marker light or a clearance light, but it cannot function as both. If you need both functions, then you must install 2 separate lights on your trailer - one as a front or rear clearance light and one as a side marker light.

I really do not care for these - they are much dimmer than the lights I replaced. They also require modifications so that the vehicle does not complain about the wiring.

by:

Lights are nice, but I wasn’t thrilled that 14 lights worth over $xxx were just thrown in a box loose & shipped!

Sorry to hear about this. Customer Service will contact you.

The cover almost fit perfectly.
Well
built. Held up well to a harsh winter. A surprising find was that it keeps our fifth wheel dust free on the inside as well as the outside.
well worth the expense.

by:

This is a perfect replacement for the globrite 118a/117r clearance light. Same size, same mounting holes, same look. 6 diodes. Easy install. Great service.

by:

Very happy with the gentleman that took care of me and took his time

by:

The order arrived complete. I installed the lights, everything fit perfectly and worked.

by:

These led marker lights lined up perfectly for my motor home and are nice and bright. I would recommend not having the lens installed on the body when shipped. Taking apart the light per the video left mars from my screwdriver no matter how careful I was, they are extremely tight.

by:

I bought this a year ago to replace a burnt out running board light from another company that no longer makes them. Still working great.

Its still working great after a year. I may be ordering more to replace the older leds which are starting to fail.

by:

Looks just like the original

Working great. Just like the factory only cheaper.

by:

etrailer is my go to place for trailer parts. They do everything right. This light works great and is just what I was expecting. There was one minor problem. This light was the updated LED version of the 8 year old lights that came on my trailer. The lenses were even interchangeable after 8 years. This version has no room for the wires behind the surface mounted light and require a hole through the trailer body exactly where the wires exit the back of the light. This required hole is in a different place than the old lights and required drilling a new hole in the trailer. No big deal, but having enough room to house the wire in the back of the light would be more user friendly.

I am facing the same issue on my 1983 Aljo Aly. If the backplate was molded to provide enough of a stand-off to accommodate a wire nut it would be perfect! Another option would be a rubber gasket thick enough to accomplish the same thing plus seal the back of the light.

by:

These lights from Optronics are an exact replacement for my enclosed car trailer and were an easy install. The lights are built well, illuminate brightly and priced right.
Very happy with these lights and Etrailer !!!!

The lights are still working very well, just as they were new !!

by:

Worked out well and has held up.

by:

Still working great, have had no proble m.

by:

These are perfect replacements for the clearance lights on our RV trailer. They are bright, match to old footprint perfectly, and look even nicer. Every light works.

My comments still stand. I am happy with the purchases.

by:

I brought this as a replacement for a good bride 126R/126Y on my drivers side run board. It's a great replacement. At a distance, you can't tell.

The light pattern is slightly different, but this light was a better deal than replacing 5 other lights. I happy with it

Rob

Still great

by:

Yolanda was very patient with my sketchy description of the lights I needed replaced bu was able to find great LED replacements that look and shine brightly. This is the site to start with when needing lighting for your projects,

by:

ordered 2 lights and both broke. Cheap plastic. There is no place for the wire to go except against the trailer frame and when you tighten the cheap plastic falls apart and pulls the screw out. Had to use an epoxy to repair both.

You have to drill a hole for the wires. These lights a called surface mount for a reason.

by:

Order was quickly processed and arrived in quality time. Part was as described and with little altering it worked to my expectations. I had to drill a small hole near the center of the light so it would lay flat against the fiberglass on my 40 foot 5th wheel. E-Trailer was the only site that I could find a light of that size to match the TMC GLO BRITE 126Y light on my RV. Only difference was the number and arrangement of diodes. Light replaced had 3 diodes in a line and MCL44AB has 6 arranged in the center of the light. Light works great but design needs to be altered so that wire can be directed towards the center.

by:

I have been dealing with etrailer for many years now and have always been very satisfied with the products, pricing, service and fast delivery.

by:

These were replacement lights from the original equipment. They have worked well and are much brighter than the original.

1/19/2018

The ones I have installed continue to work as expected and without problems.

by:

The trailer marker lamps worked great. The trailer looks like a Christmas tree when it is running down the road. The best part was being able to run all the lights off one circuit. LEDs rule.

by:

Exactly as ordered and arrived early.

by:

Used these to replace the front marker lights on my Lance trailer. They are actually a perfect match for the lights that came on the trailer and were an easy install and much brighter. There is an extra hole in the base plate of the light that I drilled out and ran the wires through instead of their original hole which made it so I didn't have to drill a new hole in the trailer. As always fast shipping with etrailer.

by:

A much needed upgrade to my trailer. Much brighter & waterproof.

Michael

My clearance lights are now no problem at all. Just plug in and ready to go.

by:

Led trailer lights fit perfect, easy to install and arrived in a couple of days.
Lights are clear and bright and have had no issues since installed.

  • How to Install New Trailer Lights that Only Have One Wire
A trailer light that only has 1 wire means that it grounds through its mounting hardware. The single wire is the power wire. The best surface to ground a light to is steel. If steel is not available in the area the light installs you can attach a ring terminal and wire to the grounding stud and attach the other end of the wire to the original ground wire from the old light.

  • What Circuit Does the Black Wire of the Trailer Light # MCL44AB Attach To
If you utility trailer has the standard wiring colors for the circuit functions the black wire of the # MCL44AB would get run to the brown wire as that is the standard color for the running light circuit. If you don't have a brown wire you would want to test the wires with a circuit tester like # PTW2993 when the trailer is connected and the tow vehicle has the running or head lights on. I attached a help article on trailer wiring and a review video for this light as well.

  • Can Single Wire Clearance Light Be installed To Replace 2-Wire Light On Travel Trailer
If a trailer clearance light like part # MCL44AB1 is used, the one wire is the power wire for the light and the light will be grounded through the mounting hardware. If you want to use the ground wire that you have on your trailer you can install part # MCL44AB. This has a 2-wire install, where one is for the power and the second wire is for the ground.

  • Troubleshooting Lighting on Vehicle that Has Power But Still Doesn't Power On
If you have power to the bulb on your truck but it's not lighting up that would indicate the issue is the ground of the light assembly. I'd start by checking to see how the ground circuit is connected and make sure it's either connected to a clean metal surface that also touches the frame or is ran back to the negative post of the battery. You can also try connecting the light directly to a vehicle battery power and ground to see if it will work that way just to verify that the light is good.

  • How to Install Trailer Light part # MC32AB to a Trailer with a Single Power Wire
Sounds like you bought the # MC32AB and the # MC32RB to replace what you have on your trailer. This is the only style of light we offer in that size. It sounds like your trailer may ground it's light assemblies through the mounting hardware. Which in this case would mean that you would only need to run the ground wire of this light to the mounting hardware and the other to the power wire of your trailer's wiring.

  • Troubleshooting 2 Wire LED Lights On A Trailer Now Working
Generally with an LED light like the # MCL44AB, it would be exactly as you said, black to black and white to white. If the lights are not working at all, the first thing you will want to do is check your ground. Ensure that your ground is connected to good clean metal, free of any paint or corrosion.
