    • Tail lights: 6 amps per circuit

Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the interior trim panel in your rear cargo area. Once you've plugged in the converter, insert the included 10-amp fuse into the integrated fuse holder.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area. Adhere the black converter box to the frame of the car using the double-sided tape provided. Secure any loose parts of the T-connector with the provided cable ties.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plug on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Love it. You guys always have the best information, advice and products. Well done with this product too. Everything you need is included in the order, other than an electric drill. Plenty of length too. I was able to run it through the grommet under the spare tire and link up to the trailer pin. I can’t stand the idea of just letting the wire run under the trunk hatch since it needs to be hooked up to my bike rack.

by:
2023 Subaru Outback Wagon

Everything arrived in great condition and a lot sooner than I expected. I was even able to install it over the weekend.

I love the way most of the hitch is tucked away, out of sight. Can't wait to tow my boat and get back on the water.

The trailer wiring harness was super easy to install and tuck's away while not in use.

All in all, I am super satisfied with the whole experience. From the high quality of the product, timeliness of delivery, and minimal or low level of effort to stall the whole thing.

Thanks for everything. I attached some before and after photos.

I bought this trailer hitch for my new Subaru Outback. After watching the install video several times, it was very easy to install.
Electrically and mechanically everything works beautifully. It blends with the car, and I've had no trouble pulling my Jeep's 4x6 trailer to the county dump and hardware/garden stores.
The excellent quality, ease of installation and low price cannot be beat!

by:
2021 Subaru Forester

Ordered hitch from etrailer it arrived quickly. I waited to to install until the weather warmed up, paperwork says install time for expert 30 minutes, novice 1 hour. I spent about 2 hours installing it by myself. the packaged parts contained all the parts needed for install, along with threaded wire to help with install. the most difficult part was supping hitch into position, and applying flange nuts. had to use ratchet straps to pull into place.all in all anyone who has some mechanical ability should be able to install it.Note: you will need a torque wrench in final assembly.

by:
2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek

Hitch works great and when I don’t use it the wiring harness goes right in with my spare tire keeping it from getting road salt all over it!! Thanks eTrailer!!

by:

This is the second etrailer hitch that I have installed. The how-to videos were extremely helpful. They have really gotten it down to a science and made the process very easy to follow.

by:
Subaru

We have been ordering trailer hitches from you for 10 years. Our business is Bradley car care and this was my own new Subaru and it works great. My third hitch from you. Thank you so much for what you do for our business.

by:

Fits perfectly. Easy to stash near spare tire when not used. Electrons flow through it and the trailer lights work.

by:

Curt T-Connector was the easiest trailer wiring harness to install. The instructions were perfect and so easy to follow. Very, very good product at a most reasonable price.

by:

It works well, but the wire harnes is slightly shorter than what’s on the video. I was unable to tuck the module with the two sided tape the same was as the video.

by:

This was easy to install. Instructions were straightforward. I like that it’s stored inside the car out of the way with the spare tire when not being used

by:

Etrailer is my go to supplier of my towing needs and much more. I appreciate the quick and friendly service. My advice is check with Etrailer first before the parts house or big "Mart" stores.

by:
2022 Subaru Forester

Installing this harness could not have been easier. This is a plug-in unit and the installation video was excellent, though I didn't feel the need to take the long strip over the lock off. I installed it coming through the hatch. It would have taken a lot less time if my lady friend hadn't been texting me.

by:

Works well, easy to install. Installation tip not mentioned in the video - Rear trim piece must be pulled out (toward front of car) before pulling up.

by:
2023 Subaru Ascent

Still have yet to test it out but it seemed to plug in fine. I didn't like the method of pinching the cable on the rear hatch when in use since I wanted to keep the harness mounted on the hitch at all times so I referred to a different install video that showed me how to run the wires through a grommet in the rear of the vehicle.

by:

Products were top quality! The installation went very well, primarily from me watching the video on the product listing. The video was clear and MUCH better than the written directions. I get all of my trailer needs from etrailer, past, present, and future! Tammie from customer service was great, checking in and making sure everything was perfect on my order! Thanks!

2018 Subaru Outback Wagon

Top quality hitch that was easy to mount. The video about installing on my specific vehicle was very useful.

by:
2024 Subaru Outback Wagon

Great product quality. Like the hitch I purchased from Etrailer great quality at a good price. The dealer wanted $250 for this $35 product. The videos on how to install are great!

by:

I am very pleased with the results. It went a lot faster once the wiring connector at the left tail light was located. It would have saves a lot of time and frustration if a picture could
be included With an arrow pointing to the correct connection. It also would have helped a lot if I had ordered the correct kit but to start with, but they were excellent in sending the correct kit and refunding for the first one.

Subaru Forester

Matched my utility trailer and 2023 Subaru Forester and was easy to install.

by:
2015 Subaru Forester

This is the second trailer hitch and wire harness I've bought from etrailer and I am beyond satisfied! They leave no stone unturned for instructions and customer service. The video tutorials and the products are fantastic. I will never go anywhere else for trailer hitch and accessories.

by:
Subaru

Plugged right in. It was a little tricky getting access, but thats because Subaru used a few plastic retainers that were tricky. I did need a thread tapper and bolt to ground the thing, but otherwise it was cake.

by:
Subaru XV Crosstrek

Great service and perfect addition to my new Crosstrek Wilderness, harness says 2020 but it works with 2024 according to Curt.

by:
2023 Subaru Crosstrek

Watched the video on the website how to install which made the install very easy. Have yet to test it but looks good and ready to go.

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Wiring of 2013 Subaru Forester, Fuse Blows with Headlights and Brake Pedal
The inline fuse of the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C56040 is for the amperage draw of the converter box. When you have the headlights on and press the brake pedal you essentially are asking the box to draw the maximum amount of amperage it will ever draw since basically you'll be lighting up every light on the trailer. So what's most likely happening is that your trailer is drawing too much power for the wiring harness. This isn't uncommon and is most likely true if your...

  • Is There a Back-Up Sensor Plug on Curt Harness for 2018 Subaru Outback
The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # C56040 uses a solo connector which in under the rear cargo tray and carries the functions for the lighting circuits. There is no connector used for back-up sensors. If you have back-up sensors, they will still work as normal although there would likely be warning messages when you back up with the trailer attached. The only harness that I am aware of that ties into the back-up sensors and turns them off...

  • Recommended 7-Way Wiring Harness for a 2023 Subaru Outback
Welcome back! Happy to hear you're satisfied with your purchase. To control a trailer with brakes you need a 7-way connector. This custom fit connector plugs into your Subaru's wiring harness, which is located behind the interior trim panel in your rear cargo area on the passenger side. It will provide you with a 4-way connector. The...

  • Best Trailer Hitch and Wiring Harness for 2016 Subaru Outback Wagon
For your 2016 Subaru Outback Wagon I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Class III # 75673 over the Curt Trailer Hitch Class III # C13206. They're very similar hitches with identical ratings so you really can't go wrong either way. But looking at each from the rear of the car the Draw-Tite sits back further and is less visible. I suggest a Class III hitch because a 2 inch receiver will have a lot more capabilities than a 1-1/4 inch such as bike rack and trailer ball mount...

To add a hitch to your 2024 Subaru Outback, I recommend the etrailer Hitch item # e25TR. This hitch is custom fit and bolts to your Subaru with included hardware. This is a class III hitch with a 2" receiver. It has a 3,500 lbs towing capacity and a 350 lbs maximum tongue weight. • What 7-Way Harness and Hitch do You Recommend for My 2022 Subaru Outback Wagon?
For a great 7-way harness for your 2022 Subaru Outback wagon, it is important to have a 4-way harness installed first. If you need a 4-way harness, I recommend the T-One Connector # 118467. • Why Store the Trailer Wiring of a 2016 Subaru Forester on the Inside of It
We actually do get this question pretty regularly.
