  • Troubleshooting Trailer Hitch Bolts that Don't Want to Thread Into Weld Nuts of Vehicle
  • Dirty or corroded weld nuts on vehicle frames that prevent hitch bolts from threading are actually pretty common. Especially on vehicles that have seen a few winters. There are a couple ways you can clean out the threads so that the bolts will thread. If you check out the links I attached below you can see how this can be accomplished.

  • Lowering Exhaust to Install Hitch on 2008 Mitsubishi Outlander
  • All three of the hitches offered for your 2008 Outlander would require that the exhaust be lowered to provide access to the attachment points in the frame. Our installers routinely use a ratchet strap to provide support to the exhaust once it is removed from the exhaust hangers. The purpose of the strap is to control the descent of the exhaust so it does not fall too rapidly and damage something. The exhaust hangers are very easy to remove, simply spray the metal hanger that passes through...

  • Underhood Connection Points for Trailer Wiring on a 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander
  • First, locate the vehicle battery under the hood of your 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander. It will be on the driver side. You will need to move it rearward as much as possible, or completely remove it from its position, to gain access to the area behind the headlight. Look for the wiring harnesses behind the headlight. Taped to one of them should be a wire with a gray connector on the end that is not connected to anything. It is possible that the harness is further back or has fallen off and...

  • Running Lights Work But No Tail Lights Working
  • This sounds like a ground issue. Ground problems normally show up when there is more draw on a system such as when you have the running lights on and then use another function like a turn signal or brake light but can show up any time. Make sure that the vehicle side and trailer side connectors are clean and free of corrosion inside and out. The main connector grounds should be attached to clean and corrosion free bare metal surfaces. The light grounds should also be attached to clean...

  • Bolts Provided with Hitch Will Not Fit in Nuts Welded Into Vehicle Frame
  • Your Curt # 13569 Class III hitch uses M10 x 1.25 x 35 hex bolts. Typically what happens on older vehicles or vehicles that have spent time somewhere that uses chemical de-icing agents on the pavement in cold weather is that road crud and corrosion get built up on the threads of the nuts welded up into the vehicle's frame. Once this buildup gets severe enough, it makes it difficult to get the bolts threaded in, and it seems as if the bolts are the wrong size. 99.9% of the time it's a...

  • Losing Power from Tailight Circuit Entering the Converter Box on a 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander
  • If you are receiving 13.3 volts on the taillight circuit going into the converter box and only 6.6 volts coming out, then this would indeed indicate a bad converter box. It is not uncommon for converter boxes to fail over time as they are after all, just an electrical component. We have found that over the years, Tekonsha brand wiring products tend to have the greatest longevity and fewest problems. The license plate light you installed should not have had an effect on the converter box...

  • Where to Connect the Power Cable For Trailer Wiring on a Mitsubishi Outlander or RVR
  • The 12 volt power cable for the T-One Wiring Harness, # 118538, should be attached to the clamp that holds the battery cable on the positive post of the battery. I attached a photo showing this type of installation on another vehicle that should be helpful. I also attached a link to instructions and a video that should help out. The vehicle in the video is different but the wiring principle is the same. You would not want to attach the power wire to any other power source other than the...

  • Wiring Harness and Installation for 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander
  • Thank you for providing a picture of your 2011 Outlander's tow package connector. If your 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander came with the factory tow package then you have identified the correct trailer wiring harness, Curt # C56102. A similar wiring kit from Tow Ready is part # 118518. Both work on your Outlander. The connector in your photo certainly appears to be the correct mating connector for the harnesses. If you look again at your connector and that on the harnesses you will note that...

  • What is Purpose of Tie Down Loops on Curt Hitch # 13581
  • On the Curt hitch part # 13581 that you referenced the two loops you mentioned are for safety chains from a trailer. Safety chains are designed to prevent the trailer from becoming totally disconnected in the event of a coupler failure. If somehow the coupler failed, and the trailer became disconnected the safety chains would hold the trailer to the hitch and prevent it from running away.

  • Can 2 Coil-Rite Air Helper Springs be Inflated Using a Single Line on a 2009 Mitsubishi Outlander
  • The air lines included with the Coil-Rite system # F4182 for your 2009 Mitsubishi Outlander can handle the higher air pressure so having them inflate on one line would be fine. Please note the installation instructions that I viewed on the Firestone site indicate the bags are rated for 5 to 35 psi, not 36. Not that 1 psi makes a difference but better safe than sorry. There should always be at least the 5psi minimum in the air bags at all times.

  • Putting Stronger Crossbars on Sylvan Sport Go Easy Trailer
  • That is an interesting project you have there, and I called my friend in Yakima to discuss how it could fit. Since Sylvan Sport is not a brand we work with and can test on, we don't have the information to give confirmed fits. I can give my recommendation though based off my experience with kayak trailers. I am curious about how you can fit 4 bikes and two kayaks onto your bars. A close equivalent of the Go Easy Trailer is the Yakima EasyRider # Y08129. The EasyRider uses 78" HD Bars #...

  • The only part of the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13398 that will be visible once installed on your 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV will be the receiver tube opening. Therefore, the majority of the hitch will actually be hidden. I do have an install photo of this which I have attached for you. This however is the only photo I have for you. If you can let me know what you will be using the trailer hitch for, I would be glad to recommend some other items for you to use with the above.

The 4-pole trailer connectors are vehicle specific; the part for your Montero is # C55380. I have included links to all of these parts. Installation of a brake controller is described in the three...
