Troubleshooting Trailer Hitch Bolts that Don't Want to Thread Into Weld Nuts of Vehicle
Question:
I went to install the 13581 hitch on my Outlander. The 10MM bolts supplied with the hitch dont seem to fit the threaded nuts in the frame. There is some rust on the threads but I cant even get the bolt started. Have you had any one else question the bolt size?

Dirty or corroded weld nuts on vehicle frames that prevent hitch bolts from threading are actually pretty common. Especially on vehicles that have seen a few winters.
There are a couple ways you can clean out the threads so that the bolts will thread. If you check out the links I attached below you can see how this can be accomplished.
