Video Transcript for Hopkins Wiring - Trailer Connectors - 48195 Review

Today, we're going to review part number 48195, this is the Hopkins quick fix four way flat car and trailer ends. This part comes with everything shown here. This allows you to replace a damaged four wire flat on your wiring harness. When you connect it, there is no external splices. It includes both the vehicle side and the trailer side connector. It is designed to use 14 gauge, up to 16 gauge wire. Basically, it also comes with a nice package of terminal grease so when you make your connections, you put some grease one it, it will help maintain those connections and protect them.

Basically, what you do, like in this case, this would be the trailer side. You'll see you just cut off your old four way, have the wires separate. Each, they do have the markings for ground, tail light, left turn, right turn, so it helps you out. Just run your wire in there. Once you've got all your wires in there, you just take this cap, the cap would go right in there, and then all you do is just push down. I don't want to do that because it does lock in place, but you push down all the way and it would secure your wires and you have a new four way connection point.

Same way on the vehicle end and it also is marked also. That should do it for the review on part number 48195. This is the Hopkins quick fix four way flat car and trailer ends. .

They have just what I needed and it arrived very quickly.

by:

I have used etrailer probably four or five times now and have been very happy. Shipping is fast, prices are reasonable and the products are of good quality. I purchased more of the Quick Fix 4 Pole Trailer Ends - they work really well for the non-automotive industrial control project I am working on.

by:

E-Trailer always has the unusual parts That I need, and good quality at that thank you.

by:

Fantastic product, simple fix. Customer service is second to none. I will shop here again!

Had an old extension that was installed by a truck rental company that "U" use to haul with. The harness failed after some years and I cut it off from the old vehicle. The wires were fine but the plugs had failed so I needed new ends. I used these to turn the old wiring harness into a new harness extension to hook my boat trailer up to my new Ford pickup. These 4 flat connections were perfect for the job and the price is great. Additionally, if you have left over vehicle wiring (like I do) from other projects, you can use these ends to make as long an extension as you would ever need.

These plugs worked flawlessly all last summer on a home-built wiring extension made with vehicle wiring left over from a previous project. A great product, simple to use and well designed for river rats like me.

by:

Love these connectors---was able to make a trailer wiring harness to the precise length required without excess wiring or using any type of butt connectors to join wires, etc. My only complaint is that these are no longer available in the 5 pin configuration so that I will not be able to connect back-up lights in the future.

The 4 pin connectors are working great-as previously noted, when will you start offering the 5 pin configuration once again so I can hook up back-up lights??? Surely Im not the only one who has back-up lights on their trailers. I purchased one set from you, but need an additional 2 sets 2 male &amp 2 female for my other 2 trailers. Please send me a couple 5 pin sets!!!

by:

They had exactly what I was looking for. Good price and fast shipping.

by:

Got them and put it on, I needed it to make my 5 trailer wires attach to a 4 pin connector as I looked around for one an couldn't find it. Will try it today to see if it worked.

It worked but the band didnt fit just right I taped it a d used it for several month until I found the original part and replaced it.

by:

Simple, easy, and fast way to create an extension for your existing connector. I needed about 3 additional feet of flat cable to connect my 4Runner to the camper and these connectors worked perfectly. No need for crimp tool and ugly connectors with tape and waterproofing.

The Hopkins Quick-Fix connector isnt completely watertight, so using some dielectric grease like # 11755 to keep moisture out of the connection.

by:

Contacts did not strip the wiring very easily. I had to strip covering manually to make sure good contact was made. I really like the hard plastic. I think it will last a lot longer than other type plugs.

Still working just fine.

I've been looking for these for along time. Good quality and price. Will order again from etrailer. Fast shipping.

Works great came in real handy when a emergency came up.

by:

Necessary item for your on the road spare parts kit, these install quickly to restore connections to lighting that is intermittent or non functional. Your safety and the safety of others depends on your lighting. In the rust belt, connectors have a short life due to salt and de-icers that are applied to the roads. These are a quick fix. If filled with dielectric grease during install they have a good service life.

by:

Used both of the enclosed quick connects during a rewiring job on a trailer rehab. Installation was a breeze and made life easy. Simply cut the old, crusty connector from the vehicle harness insuring I cut far enough back to access fresh, unweathered wire. No muss, no fuss. Used the other on the renewed trailer harness using brand new 4-wire also purchased here at Etrailer. Very satisfied!

by:

Product works but design is questionable. Once the locking tab is inserted, there is no way to reopen without the tab breaking. Same product from another manufacturer has folding tab secured by screws and can be reopened if there is a problem. That model also has LEDs to indicate if connection is working properly.

by:

It worked eventually. I only needed to replace the trailer plug. My trailer has five wires (two brown), so I had to tap one brown off the other to get it to work. Also, I could not get my left side trailer lights to work. After taking everything apart and pulling out my tester and the bulbs etc, I figured out the "Quick Fix" had not cut the jacket on the yellow wire but had only squeezed it. I had to help it along. It is all working now but I wouldn't say it was a quick fix.

by:

Wires easily pulled out of plug.
Should
solder them in.
On the other hand this is the first time I had a bad experience with this great company after many purchases.
I will buy from them again.

This piece is best used as a temporary fix, thus the name quick fix

by:

These work great on the standard 4-wire that I used for my 04 Honda CR-V wiring. I also wired the 118158 converter to one of these, but you really need to make sure the wire jaws in this connector make a good connection as these wires have different wire/insulation thicknesses. I used 2 pairs of these so I could use a 4-way tester at the front and rear of the vehicle to make sure everything worked at these points.

by:

The flat-4 type plug has a tendency to break off the one pin NOT sheathed in plastic on the side where the other three pins are protected by the plastic. These plug ends make repair quick and easy. No wire stripping or electrical tape needed. Just cut off the bad plug, arrange the wires in the same order in the new plug and snap the cover on. DONE in about a minute!

by:

This product is rather flimsy and because of this, there is not enough clamping power to keep the wires firmly in place. I had to squeeze the connector with pliers several times. Eventually the connector would flex back and loose the connection in a matter of minutes.

by:

I am a model railroader using the solderless flat 4-wire connectors to make wiring harnesses for G-gauge model railroad modules with 3 tracks. The connectors make it easy to customize the wire lengths from end to end of each module. I did make a mistake and order just one side of the connectors instead of the pair that has both trailer and vehicle ends and called customer service where I received excellent help from Nicole and she made sure the correct parts shipped that day. Thanks Etrailer and Nicole.

by:

I couldn't use this product and will return it.

The collar on the adapter is 5/16" wide, but the slot in my car's bracket is only 1/4" wide. To use this adapter, I would have to trim the plastic collar back, or let the wiring dangle off the back of my car.

The connector also does not include a dust cap.

by:

My old trailer power connectors were shot so I ordered these replacements. They shipped quickly and I had them on and working perfectly within 20 minutes. Just make sure your wires are seated firmly before you put the finishing cap on and you're good to go. Thank you!

by:

This quick fix connector was decent. It appears that is wasn’t designed for this gage of wire for the application it was used. It was difficult to get the cover snapped into place with the four wires placed in the plug..

by:

Very quick to install in the field when you have a problem with your trailer connector. I always keep a spare in case I have a problem on the road.

by:

Put this on my trailer as soon as I got it and it has made a world of difference. My connector was slightly wire bare and I was having lights short out. This fixed that without costing much and without running new wire.

  • Recommended Replacement 4-Pole Trailer Connector for Wishbone Type Trailer Wiring Harness
The # 48195 would be a handy item to have around in case of emergency, but It's not a permanent fix and I wouldn't recommend using it for a 5 wire wishbone harness. The # 002402 would be a better choice but I prefer the Hopkins # HM48110 because of its larger gripping surface that makes using the connector much easier. For installation to your existing harness, you'd connect the two brown wires from the trailer harness to the brown wire on the # HM84110, then match up the yellow, green...
