An example of sag on the rear suspension under a heavy load.

The resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with the trailer's suspension to keep it level, which improves driving performance for your vehicle. When hauling heavy loads, you will often see the rear of the vehicle sag, while the front end raises up. In this case, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but more of the vehicle's weight as well. Since less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making significantly less contact with the road, reducing traction, which decreases the vehicle's steering and stopping performance.

Under pressure, hollow rubber springs are designed to progressively support the suspension.

The Timbren system has a custom bracket that will be bolted onto the trailer frame above the axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits one inch above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape provides increased resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping the trailer level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's or passenger's side of the trailer. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying without Timbren SES

Timbren Suspension systems help compensate for all of the probable causes of trailer sway from unbalanced loads to gusts of wind from passing vehicles. Installing Timbren will make your trailer track better behind your vehicle and provide a safer more comfortable towing experience.

An example hauling a heavy load with and without Timbren.

When hauling heavy loads, the resistance from Timbren's hollow rubber springs will work with the trailer's suspension to raise the trailer's ride height. This is will take additional strain off of the hitch components and help the trailer ride easier.

Product is as described, installation was easy & performed as expected.

by:

I ordered these to help reduce the rolling (tilting) of my 18' travel trailer that I use off-road. Also, I am hoping it will absorb some of the shock. I have added some photos of before and after installation. The installation was simple, I used 5/16" sheet metal screws instead of the bolts supplied. Time will tell if they work as expected.
As you can see from the photos, I have previously added an Etrailers shock mount kit to my axle. I made custom lower mounts that I welded to the axle and used the supplied upper mounts.

  • What Trailer Suspension Enhancement is Best for Preventing Axle From Contacting Trailer Frame
If your trailer suspension is in good working order and your trailer has not been overloaded the axles should not contact the frame at any time, even on bumpy roads. However we do offer suspension kits in various ratings that can help prevent axle-to-frame contact. The link provided will take you to our product page showing five Timbren trailer suspension enhancement products that are compatible with both double-eye and slipper spring suspensions. • Timbren Trailer Suspension Installation for Trailer with Narrow U-Bolt Plate
The Timbren Trailer Suspension Enhancement System # TTRA1702 doesn't have to fit between the u-bolts of the trailer axle. All that is required is that the plate attaches to the frame and the rubber spring touches the axles so you could mount is so that the rubber spring contacts the axle to the inside or the outside of the u-bolts on the axle if needed.

  • Timbren Trailer Suspension Enhancement System that Could Fit Tandem Trailer with 3,500 lb Axles
For a tandem axle trailer the Timbren suspension kit part # TTRA1702 would be a great option to provide additional suspension support. It can provide up to 1,000 lbs of additional support per axle. Since you have a tandem setup you'd need two of these. This will get rid of suspension sag when your trailer is loaded which would raise it up in a sense, but it is not actually a lift kit. For an actual lift kit you'd want the part # RR23QX instead.

The Timbren Trailer Suspension Enhancement System, part # TTRA1702 is designed for light duty trailers. This system has a weight capacity of 1,000 lbs. You do not want to exceed the trailers weight carrying capacity. Also, this system is for trailers with a suspension system that is in good working order. If this system meets the weight requirements for your Jayco trailer, then it will fit your trailer if there is room on the frame, above the axle, to drill holes and install the rubber...

  • Can the SumoSprings TSS-107-40 Fit On a 2,000 Pound Axle?
We have confirmed with SumoSprings that the # TSS-107-40 can be cut down to shorten them, but the brackets will fit a U-Bolt plate that is at least 3-7/8" wide. This will typically be larger than what is used on an axle that is less than 3,000 pounds. Due to this, the Timbren Trailer Suspension Enhancement System Light-Duty Trailers 1,000 lbs # TTRA1702 may be a better option. The # TTRA1702 will measure 2-3/4" tall when not under load and is much more suitable for trailers with limited...

  • Recommended Way to Improve Ride of Travel Trailer With 2,000 lb Axle
There are options made specifically to address trailer suspension and smooth out the ride, though I can't see a longer, higher-rated leaf spring being the answer. I just can't see this working out as a solution, so I think the best option is a Timbren system that fits below the frame: - Timbren Trailer Suspension Enhancement System Light-Duty Trailers # TTRA1702 The Timbren # TTRA1702 sits above the axle (or leaf spring if they are above the axle) and takes the brunt of the weight to...

  • Timbren Suspension Enhancement Recommendation for Bottoming Out Trailer
I would recommend the part # TTRA1702 for your trailer as it will provide you with additional suspension support so that your suspension stops bottoming out harshly and would not raise the suspension. Since your trailer is a tandem you would need two of these kits. That being said I have to recommend you lighten up the load you carry with your trailer as you are exceeding the axle capacity and could potentially damage things or hurt another driver. This is actually the root of your problem.

  • How Much Does a 1977 22 Foot Ideal of Idaho Travel Trailer Weigh
The best way to determine the weight of your 1977 Ideal of Idaho travel trailer is to take it to a truck scale, weigh station, or place where they sell bulk gravel and ask to weigh the trailer. I have included a link that should help. From what I could find (I could only go as far back as 1980) but in that year on a 22 footer the weight was about 4,000 pounds. If the weights and capacities are not on a plate on the trailer frame somewhere then to know for sure you are going to need a scale.

The width of the clamp on portion of the SumoSprings Trailer Helper Springs w/ Line Relocation Bracket part # TSS-107-40 is likely not to fit the thinner upper plate on the lighter 2,000 lb. axle. These helper springs are designed for 3K to 5K axles. Instead, go with the Timbren Trailer Suspension Enhancement System Light-Duty Trailers 1,000 lbs part # TTRA1702 these will attach to the frame instead of the springs and have you in good shape. • Solution for Reducing Sag When Loading Barbeque Pit Onto Trailer
Replacing the leaf springs on your trailer with higher capacity springs may not resolve the sag you are seeing when the BBQ is loaded onto the trailer. I do not recommend going this route, as higher capacity springs will result in a stiff ride (which may lead to damage on your BBQ pit) and may also require a completely new hanger orientation and size. I also recommend checking to make sure that you are not exceeding the weight capacity of your trailer. Adding aftermarket products to the...

  • Weight Distribution Recommendation for a 2011 Nissan Frontier Towing a 3000 lb R-Pod Trailer.
Some bumpiness comes with the territory when you are towing a trailer. A weight distribution system should help you smooth out the ride quality of your 2011 Nissan Frontier Towing a 3000 lb R-Pod trailer. Weight distribution systems are recommended when the trailer weighs more than 50 percent of the tow vehicle. So you would be a good candidate for a WD system. Weight distribution does what it name implies and distributes the tongue weight of your trailer to the front axle of the tow vehicle...

For a 7,000 lb axle kit you would want the part # TTRA1032. For a 10k axle kit you would need the # TTRA15252. • Recommendation of Timbren Trailer Suspension Enhancement System for a 3,000-Lb Utility Trailer
I would recommend to use the Timbren Trailer Suspension Enhancement System , part # TTRA1032, on your 3,000-lb utility trailer. This enhancement system is for medium-duty trailers. It has a weight capacity of 7,000 lbs. This does not mean that you will be able to carry more weight than what your trailer is rated for, but it will help reduce sag and sway when you put the load of your equipment on the trailer. It is always better to have more weight capacity than not enough weight capacity....

Yes, this could be caused by worn out leaf springs on your trailer. Sometimes you'll see this caused by using shackles that are too long, but in this case it's probably safe to assume that this is being caused by worn out leaf springs. If you need help finding replacement springs, just let me know the length of your current springs and I can make a recommendation for your 3500-lb axles. To measure your springs, measure from the center of one eye to the center of the other.

The Timbren Trailer Suspension Enhancement System, part # TTRA1702 is designed to be installed directly on the trailer frame. It has a weight capacity of 1,000-lbs. As the instructions state, on trailers the springs will be in constant contact with the trailer frame so that is expected and the springs will work well for you.
