The waterproof construction of this light makes it ideal for use on trailers that may be submerged, like a boat trailer. The circuit board is sealed, which means that water will not damage the diodes or circuit board.
If a trailer is 80" or wider at its widest point, then it requires rear clearance lights in addition to basic trailer lights. These clearance lights indicate the width of the trailer when it is viewed from the back.
To meet these requirements on a flatbed utility trailer where the bed extends past the wheels, you can install combination trailer lights that include the rear clearance function. For proper mounting, the lights must be installed at the widest points on the rear of the trailer - one on each corner.

Today we're going to be reviewing part number ST4RB. This is a square submersible trailer tail light for the right hand side of your trailer from Optronics. The red square trailer light is going to serve 7 functions for trailers more than 80 inches wide such as your stop, turn, tail, rear clearance, rear reflex, side marker, and side reflex indicators. It's going to have a corrosion resistant design. It's also going to feature a gasket that goes around the perimeter of the housing. That's designed to create a weather tight seal. It's going to feature a replaceable lens as well as an incandescent bulb that can be replaced as well.
It's going to have a shock proof socket that's going to guarantee a long bulb life. The stud mounts on the right side of the trailer with the 2 studs exposed here on the back. The measurement that we have, center on center, the distance between the 2 is going to measure right on 2 inches. The wiring design has a plug and go, molded male plug for water tight connection to the electrical harness. The light is designed to ground through the mounting studs and you can see that it does also have the 2 exposed wires which are going to be your power leads. The brown one is going to be for the tail lights. The green one is going to be for your stop and turn signals. The overall length is going to give us a measurement of 6 and 1/8 of an inch.
The overall width is going to measure 4 and 9/16 of an inch. Then your overall depth is going to measure right at 2 and 7/8 of an inch. We're going to go ahead and hook it up to our external power source. That way we can see what it looks like with power running to it and with our overhead lights turned off. We're going to go ahead and make our ground connection and then we'll take the brown on for our tail lights and hook that up as well as the green wire for the stop and turn signal. You can see here it's going to provide a nice consistent signal. I'm just going to make sure my ground wire stays attached.
This is going to be the tail light function and then when we apply the brakes, it's going to illuminate for an even brighter signal and that's going to do the same thing when we apply the turn signal as well. Plug-n-go connection; 2-bulbsThe ST4RB was not a direct replacement for my original Optronics tail light (I searched the entire internet looking for one) but close enough. Unfortunately, I had to splice the leads from the light to the trailer leads and put water tight marine caulk (at least I hope it's water tight) on the spliced connections in the hope that they will last through the fishing season. eTrailer was good in responding to my questions for everything, but sometimes there's just no substitute for using your brain to fix what ain't perfect.
The lightbulb that came in this light was no good. It's a two in one bulb and one of the filaments blew almost immediately. It took a few hours of troubleshooting for me to realize what had happened because you just don't expect the bulb that comes in it to be garbage... It works fine with a new bulb.
Originally ordered a different brand of tail lights, but unfortunately one side was back ordered which would have delayed my shipment enough to put me pass my deadline to have my trailer ready. Rebecca at etrailer.com worked with me and suggested these Optronics lights as an alternate. She had them shipper out that day and they arrived quickly and in great shape. this vendor offers exceptionally good customer service and very reasonable pricing for all of your trailer needs. Will definitely be using them again for any of my trailer part needs.
Everything it should be except it says waterproof but the wires are in a hole rather than through a grommet. I'll seal it with a blob of silicone!
