Video Transcript for Review of TruRyde Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension - 3-1/2 Inch Long Shackle Strap - TRSL350

Hi everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a brief look at this shackle strap. Now, this three and a half inch long shackle strap is going to connect your double eye spring to your rear hangar of your single axle trailer or your equalizer on your multiaxial trailer. This connection, as you no doubt know, is going to allow movement to take place, ensuring an evenly distributed load between the axles. This is made of durable steel and shackle.

strap lengths are measured from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the other. So lining up my ruler here, as you can see on center, we're sitting right at three and a half inches, center to center, and that bolt hole diameter is 9 16ths of an inch. And if you're interested, the overall length of our strap is right at four and three quarters inches long, edge to edge, and then the overall width, we're sitting at one and a quarter inches. Well, that's gonna wrap up our real quick look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you.

Again, my name is Andy, thank you for joining me.

Only received 1. Parts are a 5, delivery options questionable. Can't delivery 10 pounds of metal in a paper mailer. Was tore open on the bottom. I run a mailing business and I can tell you its not that much more expensive to use a box.

Oh my goodness! I am sorry that it arrived missing 4 of these shackle straps. Customer Service will be in touch with you so we can send them out.

by:

My axle was maybe a 1/4" from the bottom of the trailer, so I replaced the 2" shackle with this 3-1/2" and so far so good.

by:

You sent me out side to measure middle od the eye to middle of the eye and I said 2 1/2in you send me a eye to eye of 3in.
I called you and left a message at 230 no return call.

Thanks for reaching back out, George! I am so sorry we messed up with the shackle straps. I made sure a customer team lead saw your review and they will be returning that call!

by:

very pleased with the springs i purchased, trailer towing is excellent.

by:

To me a shackle is made of 2 pieces. It is unusable with only 1 piece. $X.XX for half a shackle is overpriced, then they add insult to injury by charging $5 shipping.

Our manufacturers have typically sold the shackle straps as single straps unless they are part of a specialized kit. I was not sure what the second piece would be that you are looking for? Would it be a shackle bolt like part # 166081?

by:

The shackle and bolts fixed my problem .Original shackle had pointed or right angle corner and the trailer hung up.
The new shackle had a radius corner and didn't catch the frame.
Works great

by:

Very good and reliable company. i searched for parts from many other suppliers and they all sent me the wrong parts. I found what i was looking for here and I got my package 2 days sooner than expected. will be ordering from here again!!

by:

These are way overpriced. I found them elsewhere for $x.xx each.

by:

Everything was what was expected and the delivery was on time. I will always look to etrailer for my trailer parts. I built a trailer from scratch and it was etrailer that helped build it.

by:

As usual, fast service with no mistakes. Correct parts shipped as ordered. Great communication with Alex

by:

It fit perfectly but it actually used it for a shackle on a hit rod I’m building . That car is a sebring 3000 mx with pinto leaf springs. Just so happens the shackle strap fit the shackle perfectly.when you build a hot rod you always open your mind to found what works. A trailer part on a car made sense .

by:

Purchased replacement springs, equalizers, shackles and all the needed hardware to put it all together for my tandem axle boat trailer. While I was trying to figure out all the parts I needed on-line, I made a couple calls to etrailer's customer service and they were awesome! Parts arrived quickly and are exactly what I needed. I put together one of the spring / equalizer / spring set-ups and placed it on the trailer frame to confirm fit. Perfect! Looking forward to swapping all the parts out this weekend. And I'll be shopping with etrailer again soon to get a trailer hitch for my new Durango!
Thanks etrailer!

good product

by:

I can't say enough good things about the product or service. The order was shipped within a couple of hours of being placed and arrived 3 days early. This was important because I was stranded far from home. The sales help was great. The new leaf springs really improved how the trailer feels on the road. The picture is of my sheep wagon trailer at my hideaway in New Mexico after driving 1900 miles including highway speeds of 75 mph as well as crawling up jeep trails in four wheel low, the new springs took it all in stride.

No problems at all. Since I last commented I have taken it to California, numerous trips around California, to Idaho and back. I spend a lot of time on washboard gravel and dirt roads. Last week I had the tires replace and the springs looked perfect.

by:

I wish the shackle bolts came out as easy as ordering the parts!!!!
Jean at etrailer made it simple, answered all my questions and advised on some other items I would need to complete the job.
The parts arrived quick and everything was there. The shackle straps were heavy duty not light metal junk. The bolts and springs were also of the same quality.
Etrailer is trailers I highly recommend them you won't be disappointed.
Thanks again Jean.

Very happy with the service I received, will purchase again!

The old and new. Got over 12 years from the first ones.

by:

It was easy to order the parts, they came as predicted and it was an easy installation. Thanks for having the 3.5" shackles available when I needed them.

You are the first person or company that has asked how things worked out after use for some time. What an exceptional idea and likely good for understanding any real issues with the item. In this case the shackles gave me the extra 14 ground clearance that I needed and I have had no more problems with tires hitting the fender on off road driving. They were install on a small 10 home made enclosed trailer.

by:

These are very solid steel. But I didn't order them to use as spring shackles, but for steel straps such as for the bottom side of a U bolt. I also needed to replace a tongue jack mounting bracket but didn't want to buy an entire mounting kit (as suggested by an etrailer "expert") so I used this instead. You can see by the attached photo that they do a better job of mounting the tongue jack by not hanging down below the trailer tongue as the factory brackets do. But they do need to be painted--which is no problem since the zinc coated ones would also need paint eventually (unless you don't mind the rust). I bought several in various sizes for mounting stuff to my trailer tongues and for other projects.

by:

Even with the product taking almost a month to arrive I gave Etrailer 5 stars... UPS lost my package and never admitted to it saying that it was USPS’s fault. Karen, at Etrailer, was very helpful with contacting UPS to try and figure out what happened, and ultimately re-shipping the items. After they arrived, they bolted directly to my existing enclosed trailer with no problem. Thanks again Karen!

by:

Thought these might work but too short for the intended application. I needed a longer shackle to improve the clearance for the tire from the fender wheel well.

by:

Great product, work like a champ. Excellent machining standards allowed for easy install. End result is more clearance in the wheel well.

by:

Needed to raise my frame on a pontoon trailer for a little more tire to fender clearance. Going from a 2" shackle strap to this 3 1/2" worked perfect. Good quality and shipped fast.

by:

No problems. All four were made to good tolerances. Much heavier than the one I took off the trailer.

  • Will Adding the Lippert Road Armor Raise My Trailer to an Unsafe Height
We've seen a lot of our neighbors raise their trailer considerably more than 1/2" without adversely affecting handling on their trailers; many of them use spacer blocks or axle flip kits to gain as much as 4 to 4-1/2" of additional clearance. As long as your trailer tows level with your truck, I don't believe that extra 1/2" of height will have the negative effects you might expect. When it comes to adding the Lippert Road Armor # LC696740 to your 2021 Venture Sporttrek 327VIK, these are...

  • Availability of 4" Long Shackle Straps
The closest thing we have is the 3-1/2" # TRSL350 you were looking at. I am not aware of any 4" shackle straps available anywhere so these are your best bet. The only other option would be to try and have custom shackles made but I'm not sure what the cost would be to make that happen.

  • Should 2-1/4 Shackle Straps with New Suspension Kit be Used Instead of 3-1/2 Current Straps
The 1/4" shorter equalizer in the Dexter Heavy-Duty Suspension Kit # K71-359-00 will be just fine but you are correct that you don't want to use shorter shackle straps as well. You can either reuse your old ones if they are in good shape or use the 3-1/2" Shackle Strap # TRSL350 instead. It would be a good idea to just use new straps since you are changing out suspension parts anyways.

The shackle straps in this kit are 2-5/8-inch long measured from hole center to hole center, but we do offer longer shackle straps as separate components. For example, part # TRSL350 is a 3-1/2-inch strap (measured eye to eye) and 4-3/4-inches overall. I have included a link to our main page for trailer...

These bolts have the zerk fitting to allow you to add grease for better movement and less noise. If you prefer basic bolts, then I recommend # 166081.

The closest equalizer we have to what you said you need is the part # TREQ310 that is 6-1/16 inches long and 4 inches tall measured on the hole centers of the equalizer. For bolts you would want the part # 126B2 and then for the shackles part # TRSL350.

  • Can You go From 20-1/2 Inch to 23-1/8 Inch 3,500 lb Leaf Spring if Shackle is Horizontal
Your trailer with a 3,500 lb axle should definitely have 3,500 lb leaf springs, and they also shouldn't be almost horizontal, they should be closer to vertical (but still angled a bit). So if they are 20-1/2 inches now you can go to the 23-1/8 inch 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 3,500-lb Trailer Axles # e59SR.

  • Can Trailer With Existing 3-1/2" Shackle Straps Use 2-5/16" Shackle Straps From Equalizer Kit
Switching the shackle straps on your 2015 Big Tex 60CH would not be a good idea, especially since you would be using a significantly shorter size. In general, you want to keep the same length since swapping them out will change the suspension geometry and cause problems. Sometimes you need to use a longer shackle if you get a tall equalizer but I'm sure that doesn't apply here. I have a solution for you, but the Dexter # K71-359-00 is not going to be a fit since the equalizer is only 5-3/4" wide. You could use the Suspension Kit for Tandem-Axle Trailers - 1-3/4" Wide Double Eye Springs - 3-1/8" Links # e99ZR, which has the correct size equalizer but does not come with wet bolts and the shackle are also slightly shorter than your 3-1/2" shackles; the shackle length won't be an issue since shackles can stretch over time but if you wanted a wet bolt kit it would...

  • Selecting Replacement Shackle Straps for 30-Foot Toy Hauler Trailer
Shackle straps are the most wear-prone part of a trailer suspension since they both carry weight and receive constant friction from the motion of the suspension. Shackle straps do not carry specific weight capacities, unlike the leaf springs they suspend. To select replacements all you need to do is match their length. Shackle straps are available in three lengths, 3-1/8-inch (single axle systems), 2-5/8-inch (tandem and triple axle trailers) and 2-1/4-inch, the most common length for...

  • Are Shackles Supposed To Move Freely and Can They Flip The Wrong Way
The shackles on suspension systems like part # TRSL350 are designed to be fairly loose because the equalizer on your trailer suspension needs to be able to move without binding. The best thing to do when tightening down shackle bolts is to use lock nuts, tighten them until they are snug, then back them off 1/4 turn. If you do not compensate for the shorter distance with either longer springs or shackle straps, that is likely the root cause of the problem.
