Subaru XV Crosstrek

I purchased this hitch for my '16 Subaru Crosstrek. It arrived quickly and install took about 30 minutes. As you can see in the photos, it looks well integrated (not like an add-on). Using it with a Yakima Holdup bike rack.
Very pleased with the customer service from etrailer.com. A friend recommended to me and I will do the same.

Still vary satisfied with the hitch. I use it mostly for attaching my bike rack. Even bought a Subaru cap to put on it when not in use.

by:

Well you have plenty of photos of an installed hitch. The process went about as described in your video, which was very helpful. I installed the spacers on the forward bolts, only to find that they weren't needed to level the hitch. I didthis on my own and with having to remove the spacers it took two hours I'm 76, so not a speed demon,, if I ever was.

by:
2014 Subaru Impreza

The fishing method took some figuring out and the widening of the access holes was lengthy with a hand file, but possible. The bolts that go on front need to be longer. I didn't end up using the spacing washers but couldn't even if I wanted to. Looks good when finished, but its a two person job.

by:
2012 Subaru Impreza

Hitch fit just as indicated. A bit of a pain enlarging holes but fortunately it was accomplished using a drill and boring tool. Whoever came up with the jig to pull the bolts through the holes is a genius. To anyone installing this or a similar hitch just “READ” and follow the instructions. Was able, though a bit tough installing by myself. Good luck torquing the bolts.....was able to get the forefront bolts to but getting the torque wrench on the back bolts was impossible, using a good socket wrench was the best I could do. On to the lighting assembly.....

Great, used it for a new bicycle rack. Worked great. Thanks

The hitch fit perfectly and looks nice. The video helps to explain how to feed the bolts into the frame. You do not have to take down the exhaust as shown in the video, there is plenty of room to work with the exhaust in place.

by:
2012 Subaru Impreza

My wife and I installed this on my her Impreza 5-Door so that we could use the Thule TH990XT to carry our bikes. Installation requires us to enlarge two holes in the subframe. After that, the installation was extremely easy if you have two people working on it. The hitch receiver looks great and does not stick out beyond the bumper at all. We don't even notice it when the bike rack is not on there.

by:
2013 Subaru Impreza

This hitch fit our 2013 Subaru Impreza Sport perfectly. Watching the video of this hitch being installed was very helpful. I watched the video several times during the installation process to make sure I was doing it properly. I backed the rear wheels onto car ramps to create an adequate working space. My only suggestion would be to make the 1/2" bolts a little longer to make threading the nut on easier.

by:
2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek

The hitch arrived quickly from etrailer! I purchased a discounted model with a few cosmetic scratches on it? Guess what the scratches are hidden by the bumper of my 2014 Subaru XV Crostrek! Install took approximately 60 minutes. The paper instructions weren't easy to understand, but after watching the install video from your site, a couple of times it went smoothly!
I have also purchased the Swagman Chinook 2 bike platform carrier to be installed soon.

by:

Installation was a little tricky, doing it by myself without a lift. I used pieces of bicycle inner tube on the bolts to help prevent them from slipping back into the frame rail. Once I secured the nuts, I removed the inner tube pieces and carefully put the spacers in. All went good.

by:

Still love it. Works great! Worth every penny!

by:
2017 Subaru Crosstrek

The hitch install took me a couple of hours including gathering all the tools, and waiting a bit for the touch up paint to dry around the enlarged holes. It was very easy and I was able to do it by myself. The complaint I have is someone at etrailer put their sticker upside down on hitch.

by:

A friend of mine helped me install the hitch on my car, and it installed just as the directions and video indicated. Though it was tricky at times, the video was very helpful and I am very happy with the product.

by:
Subaru XV Crosstrek

Easy installation. The fish wire worked great! I had my doubts at first.

This will make transporting my bicycles a piece of cake.

P.S. I installed the hitch on a Crosstrek Hybrid, fit perfectly.

by:

What a great hitch and heavy duty. I use it for a bike rack and it keep the bikes far from the rear door as the hitch is flush with the bumper.
It only took about 1 hour to install.

by:
2015 Subaru Impreza

The hitch was an easy install. My friend JP did not believe the fish method would work. He changed his mind. The install took about an hour. Works great with my bike rack. Will recommend to others.

by:
2014 Subaru Impreza

easy install, just be sure you have the correct brackets with the correct sized bolts! (The ones that go inside the frame rail) There are two different sizes.

by:

Good price, shipped right away. A mechanic friend installed for me, though I could have muddled through myself and bashed a knuckle or two. It has worked perfectly! No complaints, completely satisfied with the product. My picture isn't of the hitch, but what it allows :)

by:
2016 Subaru Impreza

Great instructions, good quality, but a huge pain to install if you have any sort of aftermarket exhaust. If you have an aftermarket exhaust where the tip is extended beyond the normal tip length, I highly recommend taking the exhaust off before you try to install it. It fits with my Borpa 11843 axleback but it may not fit at all with a different one.

by:
2013 Subaru Impreza

Very satisfied with the product! The installation was as easy as it looked on your [online] videos (which are really helpful by the way)! Delivery Time was great as well.

Thanks for a job well done!

Prompt shipping, great product and thanks for including items to help make installation easier.

by:
2015 Subaru Impreza

Super easy to install. Minimal amount of filing/drilling necessarily. Self install took about 25 min start to finish.

by:

Hitch was a great addition to my car. Use for bike carrier, easy to install and instructions were spot on. etrailer's customer service was outstanding and would purchase other product when needed.

Hitch is working out great. Quality product.

by:

Bolted up great. Did it by myself in under 30 minutes. And customer service was great. I ordered the wrong one to start with and they helped get the correct one for me!

by:

I used a dremel tool to expand just two corners of the holes on the car frame instead of making the entire holes larger. The point is to get the plates and the bolts through it, so it's not necessary to make the entire hold larger. Kind of like o->{} instead of o->O.

After getting the bolts in place, I used a bunch of strong magnets to hold them there, just so I don't accidentally push them back in while putting the hitch in place. Remember there are two different sizes of bolts/nuts/fish-wires.

Everything went smoothly until the last torque'ing part. There's barely enough room on the left side (without the exhaust pipe) to make this happen. On the right side, it's practically impossible without lowering the muffler. I got the left side exactly at 110/70 ft-lb, but I had to wing it for the right side. That's the only reason I knocked one star off.

All in all, I managed to do it all by myself and it looks nice. I like how it points up ever so slightly, too.

Hitch has been great. The rear-end of the car sagged with any load on it, so I swapped the rear springs with stiffer, but still standard height, ones made by King Springs. The car is perfect now.

by:
2015 Subaru Impreza

Had the local repair shop install the hitch. Cost less than $100. It's barely visible from the rear. Holds our bike rack steady. Very pleased with the hitch, the price, the prompt delivery and the courteous service from etrailer.

You really have to check the owners manual of the vehicle to determine what the towing capacities are. From the research I did it looks like you have a 1,500 lb towing capacity which would indicate you would have a tongue weight capacity of 150 lbs. For a hitch that fits your 2017 Subaru Crosstrek we have the Curt part # C11286 that would work well as long as you stay under the towing capacity of the vehicle. I think the confusion is in the use of the term wagon. It appears that for 2015 there were no wagon models, just 4-door sedans and 5-door hatchbacks.
