Bearing Buddy installed diagram

Bearing Buddy Operation

Replace your existing grease cap with a Bearing Buddy to ensure a safe, easy way to monitor and control the level of grease in your axle hub. To adjust the amount of grease in the hub, use a grease gun to add more through the appropriate fitting. Adding grease moves the Bearing Buddy spring-loaded piston outward 1/8".

The O-ring inside the barrel of the Bearing Buddy maintains a seal from the outside. The interior of the Bearing Buddy is pressurized, preventing water from entering the barrel and diluting the grease.

An automatic pressure-relief feature is built into the Bearing Buddy. When the device is full, grease will seep around the edges of the piston and into the barrel. This prevents overfilling that can damage the inner seal.

You can manually check the grease level in your Bearing Buddy by pressing on the edge of the piston. If you can rock or move the piston, the hub is properly filled.

1 yr review still work prefect and looking like new only added a 12 of shot of grease to each side Great price at etrailer Thanks Again

They were hell to install. But not the fault of the product, wonky trailer hubs (kit?) and axles.
The bearing buddy would start but not drive in, no matter what. Just a few thousandth to big (or hub too small). A friend way smarter than me brought a belt sander over and put a bevel on the buddy. Went right in afterwards.

by:

they fit perfectly, thanks to other reviews about Harbor freight trailors.

Stellar eTrailer.com Tech and Customer support and quality product.

I have an imported folding trailer (HF 90154) & they do not stock protective hub covers for their trailer.

I contacted their customer support they provided me the hub dimensions (dust cap by diameter 52mm) , I then shared that info with etrailer tech support who directed me to the right bearing buddy product that I needed (2.047" or part# BB2047).

They shipped and delivered it in a timely manner. I installed it this morning and it seems to be working flawlessly as I would have expected from bearing buddy!

A year later and the bearing buddy is doing its job with no issues to report! I know where to go when I need expert Trailer assistance - eTrailer!

by:

Bearing Buddy is a good product. I had to use a block of wood and a small sledge hammer to put them on. They would not go on with a rubber mallet.
I measured 2.045" and the closest one from Bearing Buddy was 2.047"They are on and will not come off.... The trailer is a kit that I bought at depot in 1997... I would recommend
this product

theses also work for the northern tool 5 x 8 trailer... hard to find this sizethanks fits great

Fast Shipping. Installation easy, fits well, grease expanded into cap just as described. Looking forward to many years of bearing life without having to pack the bearings again and again.

Working great! Check the bearing buddy before and after using trailer and keep them filled. Couldnt be happier with my results. I feel confident I wont have any bearing failure for lack of grease!

by:

These are fantastic and actually fit the harbor freight hubs which are tough to fit. I bought these after losing the original hub covers and then suffering a complete bearing malfunction on a rafting road trip. Lesson learned. These allow me to keep the bearing greased on a regular basis with no mess. Easy to use and they create a vacuum to protect everything inside. Very intuitive.

Bearing Buddy through trailer have given my little tag a long MC trailer trouble free confidence

by:

Well made and a tight fit. Just what you want. Line it up properly and use a dead blow hammer and in it goes.

by:

Myself, I have been looking for nearly 3 years for the correct size, 2.047 and it was my friend that located your site. Both went on very snug. In the past I would purchase smaller ones and twist the
inner surface and shove them on with little effort and then fly off during my travels. These Bearing Buddys went on Solid ! Harbor Freight wasn't any help at all.

Another prompt delivery of your quality product. Pleased as usual

Quick delivery, great price. Using on hubs of a pull behind motorcycle touring trailer to keep the bearings lubed.

by:

awesome addition and so much better than doing the old-school method of packing the bearings with grease.

by:

Easy installation and work great

by:

Very tough to find size bearing cover. Not even the Specialty trailer shop in my area didnt have them. etrailer had them and shipped them out fast. Great website made finding what I need easy.

by:

This things are great. They arrived just in time and they fit perfectly on my Harbor Freight trailer.

by:

Installed the BB2047 Bearing Buddies on a Detail K2 MMT 5x7 trailer.
The trailer hub has a 1/8" grease fitting on the backside which is inaccessible even to a contortionist and the maintenance instructions call for repacking the wheel bearings by hand annually or every 2000 miles.
The best alternative for a 75 year old arthritic was obviously the Bearing Buddies.
They arrived as promised and each grease cap was changed out in less than 2 minutes.
The annual repack will be replaced with a couple of strokes of the grease gun on occasion as needed.
It doesn't get any easier than that.

Working out just fine. Need to be less generous with my grease applications to avoid excess passing the rear seals and getting thrown onto the back side of my wheel rims.

by:

The Model 2047 Bearing Buddy bearing protectors were a perfect fit for the wheel hubs on the Harbor Freight heavy-duty trailer that I am using as the base for my new home-built teardrop camper. Installation was straightforward and only took a few minutes per side. I am looking forward to many years (and miles) of trouble-free wheel bearings now that these bearing protectors are installed.

Bearing Buddy is still doing its thing after a 7136.5-mile trip out West over 34 consecutive days during the Summer of 2015. A shorter, 1500-mile roundtrip was made to SC in December. Overall, Im totally satisfied with the Bearing Buddy x2 performance thus far and cant wait for the weather to warm up a little more to take my little tear camper back on the road. Ill be heading east to New England this summer.

by:

I am very pleased with the bearing buddy. I had lost the bearing cap and couldn't find a replacement at any auto shop. However, the BB2047 fit perfectly and keeps my bearings lubricated continuously. Replacing the cap did force me to repack the bearing, but that was probably a good thing as water had gotten in there. I feel the bearing buddy will protect my bearings probably for the life of the trailer; and since the grease is under positive pressure, water won't get in there.

Keith V.

6/21/2021

The bearing buddies have worked flawlessly, my trailer is used not only on the road, but in the woods and dusty locations. The bearing buddies have never ped off, and keep the bearings well lubricated a clean.

by:

Excellent upgrade for my utility trailer. Easy to install and a very beneficial way to monitor and add grease to the wheel bearings. I previously had to pull off the trailer wheels to repack the bearings with grease but now I add a few pumps of grease before every road trip. My bearings will last longer and I have peace of mind. Great product!

Just received the pair of Bearing Buddy Protectors for my HarborFreight 1720lb trailer (#94564) - fit perfectly! Took less than five minutes to install, they have a nice tight seal and are now loaded with grease. Looking forward to having almost maintenance-free bearings!

Bill

11/14/2015

Still working great after a year, Ive had no maintenance issues and have just added grease when needed. Would highly recommend!

by:

Fit perfectly on my 1195 lb. 4x8 foldable trailer. Tapped them in with a wood block and hammer, filled with grease, and installed the rubber covers--all done in less than 5 minutes. Haven't road-tested yet, but no reason to expect any problems.

Steve L.

8/16/2018

After 1 year and several hundred miles, theyre still doing great. Very pleased.

by:

The Bearing buddy I purchased looked good but are slightly larger that than the ID of the trailer hub that intended for. I measured it, and did internet searches on the trailer and Bearing buddy was the answer. That said, the Bearing buddy OD appears slightly larger than specified if my caliper measurement is correct. Wasted my money unless I am able to turn down the OD of the bearing buddy. It does look to be a quality product.

This Bearing Buddy is intended to fit a 2.047 hub bore that uses a 07204 bearing race, and is meant to be a very snug fit, to the point where its suggested that a mallet or a dead blow hammer and a block of wood be used to drive it into place.

by:

I was very impressed with my transaction with etrailer. Certainly, the customer service rep was the key to my satisfaction. She was knowledgeable, SO courteous! The bearings were a perfect fit! All is well and I will shop with etrailer again

Steve

8/28/2019

Great !!!! Such a small feature for a great deal of security in knowing that the bearings will no fail. Been There, Done That !!!

Well made, heavy duty. Fit well no trouble installing. Still in the hub after lots of bumpy road travel.

  • Which Bearing Buddy for Harbor Freight Trailer 62648 & 62666
The Bearing Buddy we have found that fits most of the Harbor Freight trailers is the part # BB2047 which would be the correct one for if your hub bore was 2.047 inches. I'd recommend verifying that measurement on your trailer hub bore.

Like 2.047 inches? For that we have the # BB2047. Or for 2.24 inches we have the # BB2240. Your best option is to use a digital caliper like the part # PTW80157 to measure the bore of the hub to pick out the size that will fit it.

  • Are There Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors for 5 x 8 Northern Tool Trailers
The best size match we have for a 2.035" hub bore is the Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors part # BB2047 which measure 2.047". It's possible they will work but these trailer don't really use industry standard parts so there's a possibility it won't as well, test fit would be the only means to confirm.

What you need to do is simply measure the outer bore of your hub with a digital caliper, which will tell you the Bearing Buddy you need. • Picking Out Bearing Buddy for Harbor Freight Trailer
In order to pick out the correct bearing buddy you will need know the pilot hole of your hub. To do this, remove the wheel and tire and remove the grease cap from the center of the hub. Usually it is a metal cap that is just lightly hammered into place. Use a screwdriver to pry off the cap. Clean the grease off and measure the opening.
