Budget-Friendly Tow Bar Keeps It Simple

You don't need to spend a fortune to get a tow bar that's going to work for you. The Curt Rambler is a simple but sturdy option that is more than capable of getting your vehicle from point A to point B.

Because the arms are adjustable and the mounting brackets are universal, you can use this tow bar with almost any vehicle within the weight limit, if you're willing to make some modifications. Adjusting them is easy: loosen the hex nuts attaching them to the coupler and swing them in or out as needed. Then, when you're not using the Rambler, the arms can be folded together to take up minimum storage space in your car, garage, or RV.

What You Need to Flat Tow

Flat towing can be a much more convenient way to take your car RVing with you than using a trailer or a tow dolly. It'll save you storage space both at home and at the campsite, and it takes less time and hassle to hook up.

To flat tow your vehicle, there are 5 basic components you're going to need: a tow bar, a base plate kit, a safety cable set, tow bar wiring, and a flat tow braking system.

For the RV Between the RV and Towed Car For the Towed Car
Hitch with ball mount and ball Tow bar Base plate
Wiring plug Safety cables Braking system
Wiring adapter cord Wiring kit/diodes

The custom-fit base plate installs on the frame of your toad so you can connect the car to your RV with a tow bar. Hook up safety cables between the vehicles to ensure that the toad does not separate from the motorhome if the tow bar becomes detached. Tow bar wiring syncs your vehicle's signal lights with your motorhome's tail lights, as required by law in most states. Finally, the flat tow braking system - also required in most states - activates the brakes in the toad when you hit the brakes in the RV, making for smoother, safer braking, and preventing wear on your motorhome.

AWESOME

by:

Functions by design. I pull a 2003 behind my motorhome. Easy to install, easy to connect to Jeep and hitch of motorhome. Never had an issue pulling, put about 5000 miles on since purchase. I would do it again if needed. Great product

by:

Unit works well towing my 2001 Nissan F rontier.

by:

I ordered a towbar from etrailer. You guys never let me down. The towbar is great and the instructions were very complete. I got it all installed very easily and I am now ready to tow my Jeep to Big Bend National Park. If you need to tow a Jeep or any vehicle that weighs less than 5,000lbs you can't go wrong for the price.

by:

Great tow bar for my 1995 Wrangler, only reason I’m not giving it 5 Stars is bc I couldn’t use the predrilled holes on the bumper....but that’s a minor complaint in my book, I ended up using the 2 inside predrilled holes on my bumper as the outside holes for the brackets.....this made it hard to get the tow bar wide enough to fit, but it did fit. Once I got it together, I tightened everything down. Tows like a champ

by:

Product fit exactly as specified, installation instructions were perfect. No issues and tow bar works perfect. I wish that all DIY projects turned this good, I highly recommend this product

by:

Bolt 7 did not fit nut 10. No problem as I had other locking nuts.
This is just for your info

by:

The two bar mounted to the existing brackets and was very easy to install took about 10 minutes!!

by:

Well made, delivered in a couple days, no hassles!

by:

Tow bar arrived on time and in good shape.
Some assembly was required, had helpfull instructions, everything fit together properly and took about forty five minutes to assemble. You will need to figure out the best way to install safety chains, as they are not included and I can understand, because every application would be different. I will be towing my Jeep Wrangler behind my 40 foot Beaver Coach.

Great Tow Bar, it has towed my Jeep Wrangler over 4,000 miles without a hitch...pun.

by:

Delivered as promised!!!Arrived in just a few days and putting it together was a snap. All parts accounted for and easy instructions. Total work time to install was about 1 hour with no adjustments necessary and it allowed my Jeep to flat tow behind my pickup flawlessly. I would definatly purchase the Curt Tow Bar again and recommend it to friends and family.

Had this tow bar a year now and have towed my JK from California to South Dakota and back without a single problem. To bar is easy to use and stow away when not in use. Definitely a good purchase!

by:

I purchased the Curt Tow Bar with Adjustable-Width Arms - Car Mount - 2" Ball - 5,000 lbs. initially I was Leary of the product because of its low price compared to other tow bars. I now can say my concerns were needless because after flat towing my Wrangler over 5,000 trouble-free miles I have nothing negative but only positives to report. The best thing I like about the tow At is that it only takes 5 minutes to attach and unhook.

My toe bar is functioning like new! I went from tying down my Harley which took at least 45 minutes to hooking up my Wrangler in 5 minutes. I’ve never had an issue and I never even Cantel my wrangler is behind me. It tracks perfectly with no excessive wear on the wranglers front tires. I give this product a 10 out of 10! And yes, I would certainly buy it again.

by:

The tow bar came as described, it was perfect for what we needed, it was good quality and was easy to set up.

by:

As always, the merchandise was received promptly and consistent with my order. Curt products have served me very well over the years---fine design, high quality production and excellent customer service.

by:

My Curt tow bar is works great, easy to install and hook up. I installed it on my 1990 Jeep Comanche pickup to be pulled behind our RV and it does the job. I don’t worry about possible decouple like the more expensive tow bars. When not in use, I can stow it in place on my truck or quickly disconnect and stow it in the truck bed or storage compartment. Great investment!

by:

Easy to install and utilize. Great pro duct!

by:

Installed easy breezy on my 89 YJ. Had to make a small adjustment on the ball clasp, but other than that everything went as expected.

by:

We installed these trailer hitches on some dumpsters that needed to get towed from a sub-floor up to street level for trash days. They were very straight forward and fairly easy to install. They look good on there, nice and clean. These were a great fix for a problem that had me scratching my head for a few weeks. I would definitely recommend these to others that need tow hitch solutions.

by:

For the price and what I needed it for, it's been good but I did make a modification because the rails would not stay in a fixed position. Rather than leave it as a "folding" tow bar, I added bolts and locking nuts right next to the bolts that held the arms in the hitch portion so the arms would not move.
I've used it quite a bit, towing a Ford Bronco II behind my motorhome. I've towed several thousand miles already.

by:

I purchased this tow bar for my 2002 Chevy S10. I did so thinking that it needed no adapter plate per the website. It will not work without an adapter plate of some sort. Do you know of anything I can purchase to complete this tow bar?

The bumper brackets that come with the tow bar part C19745 attach to a flat, metal section of your vehicles bumper. If a flat metal surface is not available then modification and fabrication maybe required. The coupler on the other end of the tow bar attaches to the 2 inch ball on your motorhome.

by:

box package was great arrives in three days ups

by:

Disappointed.
I purchased this equipment
to allow me to tow home a jeep I bought.
The hardware provided was incompatible.
The bolts and nuts had different machine threads.
I had to drive 15 miles away to find a hardware store that had the right nuts to match the bolts.
When I contacted e-trailer they were only willing to credit me $15.
Hardly appropriate for the inconvenience to the seller and myself.
I would strongly recommend test fitting all parts provided before installation.
Sincerely, PJ

An excellent tow bar...had to fabricate a push block to frame and weld clevis onto...haven't towed the Jeep as of yet. Deer season is coming up and I need to tow the Jeep to the hunt area. The magnetic light kit is nice eliminates wiring into the Jeep wiring...

  • Are Base Plates Needed to Flat Tow 1997 4Runner 4WD Using Curt C19745 Tow Bar
The # C19745 Curt Tow Bar has a 5000 lb capacity, and from what I've read the 1997 4Runner weighs about 4000 lbs at the heaviest. Technically speaking a base plate isn't necessary, but it's up to the installer to determine where to attach the bracket to the front bumper for maximum strength, and this can be a hit or miss proposition. The safest way to do this would be to use a base plate, part # 1141-3. You'd also need the # RM-025 adapter and # RM-201 quick disconnect kit. From what...

  • Is The Curt Tow Bar Compatible With A 2022 Chevy Spark
You technically could use the Curt Tow Bar with Adjustable-Width Arms - Car Mount - 2" Ball - 5,000lbs # C19745 but this tow bar is meant to be bolted to the metal bumper which would mean you'd have to really cut into fiberglass bumper and it wouldn't be as clean of a look as base plates. This kind of tow bar is typically used with Jeeps that have the metal bumper exposed.
