Roadmaster Tow Bar Braking Systems - RM-751452

  • Stop Light Switch
  • Roadmaster

Avoid damage to your vehicle by ensuring that your supplemental braking system is properly positioned and working effectively. Kit activates your RV monitoring system to alert you when the brakes of your towed car are being applied.

Features:

  • Activates motorhome brake-monitoring system whenever brake pedal in towed car is applied
    • Ensures that the supplemental braking system is functioning properly
  • Works great for any application that does not have a tow position in the ignition
  • Wires directly into towed car's fuse box for constant current
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • 12 Volts
  • Application: custom fit for your vehicle

This kit allows your RV's monitoring system to alert you whenever the brake pedal of your towed car is being applied. Other systems operate according to whether the air cylinder is extended and provide no indication of what is happening with the pedal itself. If your supplemental braking system is improperly installed, it may be continuously pressing on the pedal, impeding it from fully retracting and possibly causing damage to your vehicle's tires and braking system. With Roadmaster's Stop Light Switch Kit, you will always know when the brake is being depressed, and you will avoid costly damage.

There was a challenge presented when installing the Roadmaster Stop Light Switch (Kit #751452) on my 2015 Jeep Wrangler Sport Unlimited. The kit's Black C Bracket was not able to swing around fully to allow the kit's gray stop switch to be in line with the brake pedal. This was due to blockage caused by existing jeep's stop switch gray mounting bracket. As a result, I had to cut a notch using a Dremel and a grinding bit. The area where I had the interference from the jeep's bracket and the notch to allow proper installation is indicated in the attached photo.

It is imperative that the kit's stop light switch when mounted correctly is fully depressed. If not, 12 volts will be sent to the Evenbrake's transmitter which will result in an alarm and failure to use the Evenbrake system.

Also in reference to the Roadmaster installation instructions, there is no removable lower plastic cover. Installation requires twisting ones body under the dashboard with limited use of my left arm (I am right handed) to use tools.

I ordered the stop switch from etrailer.com. I am using a Roadmaster Evenbrake system. I do want to state a clarification concerning the battery based on what I read in etrailer's and other forums. You do not have to disconnect the jeep battery on the 2015 Wrangler Sport Unlimited Model. Jeep made a change in the second edition of the 2014 operators manual which is reflected in the 2015 manual. The earlier 2014 edition did state the disconnecting of the battery before towing. I had informed the Roadmaster tech department of this change.

The 2015 Jeep Wrangler Sport Unlimited steering column does not lock. You do not have to leave the key in ignition. You can remove it when ready to tow.

My 2015 jeep has the power convenience group. The vehicle has two 12 volt convenience outlets. One is only powered on when the ignition switch is on. The other outlet is connected directly to the battery via a fuse. It is on all the time. This is the outlet I use for the Evenbrake. Now, Jeep does state not to plug in devices that use more than 13 amps or 160 watts. Roadmaster as per their installation manual indicates that the maximum draw of the Evenbrake is 10.8 amps. I reviewed all the above to the Roadmaster tech department and they said I should not have a problem using the Jeep's always on 12 volt outlet. We recently went on a camping trip on Columbus Day weekend to a campground 120 miles from the house and no power problems were encountered with the Evenbrake system.

One other clarification is that the Jeep's brake lights are tied into the power convenience/electronics system. The brake lights will operate for a short period of time after the ignition is turned off and/or you open the jeep's door. Use of the brake lights will time out. This is the primary reason why I chose the stop light switch bracket kit.

The Roadmaster Evenbrake transmitter and the hot leg to the kit's stop light switch are fed from a dedicated 10 amp fuse protected line from the battery. This way, I avoided drilling a hole into the weather resistant under the hood fuse box plus negating the need to make rube goldberg connections to existing fuses.

It works great

by:

Thanks to a review I was aware I might have to grind out part of bracket to get it to fit. I did have to. Roadmaster said it wasn't necessary . I think they have to update the bracket for the newer models.
Etrailer was more helpful than Roadmaster.

Works great forgot it was even there

The towing package I purchased from etrailer has made all the difference in our RV trips. My jeep wrangler can go everywhere we go, easy to hook up and thanks to the invisa brake no strain on the RV brakes. Full system required a mechanic to install but all in all very happy..

by:

This product was exactly what I needed. I wanted an indicator light that told me when the brake pedal moved on my towed vehicle, not when my brake system was activated. This part fit perfectly on my 2014 Jeep Wrangler sport. Others with newer wranglers reported having to notch bracket but there was no need for that on a 2014. I wired mine a little differently than the instructions show and there was no need to tap into the wiring on my Jeep. My indicator light recieved constant power from my coach, when the brake is pushed it completes the circuit with a ground from the coach and the light comes on. I feel confident that if there is a problem and my brakes are activated when they shouldn’t be I will be aware of this before it causes damage to the toad brakes. Great product

by:

Product works as promised. My suv did not have a brake switch. The bracket did not work so i customized one for this car as there was non available. But once all installed towing feels much safer with the brake controller got here

by:

The thought of tapping into a car's electrical system makes me very nervous. So I bought this switch to eliminate that requirement. The alignment with the pedal was not perfect so I thought I might have problems down the road but I have not.

by:

The items I ordered which are to complete the setup for my Jeep Toad arrived in a timely manner and were exactly what I needed. I have not had the opportunity to install yet but I don’t anticipate any issues as I have reviewed the instructions. Tammie was great to deal with and was very knowledgeable. This is not my first dealings with etrailer and won’t be the last. Great service and knowledgeable. Thanks. Keller Texas. Don’t have any pics yet.

by:

I installed this product so I could monitor the application of the brakes on my toad from the cockpit of my motor home. Easy install, and worked like a charm. I highly recommend this product.

by:

I rec. the product on time , installed it and it work great the whole process was great, and thank you doing everything you said you and the product would do.
