Note: Tie-down anchors must be chosen according to their safe working load limit (WLL). The weight of the secured cargo must not exceed the combined WLL of the anchors being used. For example, if you are using anchors with a WLL of 100 lbs each to tie down a load weighing 400 lbs, then you need at least 4 anchors to safely secure that load. It is recommended that you always use anchors in pairs.

Video Transcript for CargoSmart E-Track or X-Track Ratchet Straps Review 348899

Today we're going to be taking a look at the CargoSmart Ratchet Straps for E-Track or X-Track. These are 2" wide, 16' long and have a safe working load limit of 1,000 pounds. They're sold as a pair. Part number is 348899.These ratchet straps are designed to help us secure large and heavy items. With 1,000 pound safe working load limit, they're going to take care of some of the heavier loads that we've got on our trailer, and 16' in length really helps us get around a lot of the larger items. So whether you're in a enclosed trailer or a utility-type trailer, these should help do the job very well.

Now the connection point is just like our standard E-Track or X-Track accessory. We've got a release at the top and then you just maneuver it in and out. Now, the 2" wide strap that we're using is a polyester material. It's made out of the SmartWeb technology, so this is going to give us superior strength and durability. We're not going to have to worry about the strap wear when we're going around corners and things like that quite as much as we do with the standard web-style strap. Now, where our straps meets the connection point, you can see it's a single layer that goes around through and back out.

You can see we've got the cross stitch pattern here. It's a nice heavy thread. I don't think you'll have to worry about that ever coming unraveled or having any issues with it.Now, the ratchet itself is going to be like most of your standard ratchet straps. We're going to open that all the way up. That's going to allow us to release it, and then using our lever there, that'll be our ratcheting mechanism.

We'll show you that when we show you how to install it. It has the yellow zinc finish on it. Inside an enclosed trailer, it's not as big of a deal, but once we start exposing this to the elements, that yellow zinc's going to help to resist corrosion. So we can rely on our straps working for a long time to come. The handle does not pivot, but I do like that it's round and there're some grooves in it.

It's more of a plastic or a polymer material, so you can get a good hold on it. It's a little bit wider than standard ratchet straps, and those grooves help you get a good grip. Now, like we discussed, the straps are going to use the standard E-Track or X-Track connection. We pull in on our tab here. Once that tab's in, we can slide it up and in the connection point and just allow that to slide back down. That's going to be securely connected for us. Now for the strap end, we want to place that in through the back side of our ratchet and then bring that back around. By doing that, that's going to allow us to pull here on our tag end to get all the slack out. By pulling all of the slack out of your strap, you're going to have more than enough room on the spool here for the strap you need to get everything nice and tight. At that point, we'll release our handle and then just begin to ratchet it.Now, the excess that you have can be tucked away or tied off somewhere, or something I like about this ratchet, we do have the gap there at the bottom. So if we lift up on our release, you can slide that in and through underneath. Then we'll just push that handle down and get it secured. That'll kind of keep it from flopping around on us. This works out a lot of times, but in a high-speed situation inaudible 00:03:21 trailer going down the highway, you might just want to tie that excess off back to the strap. Now, these straps are going to come in a kit of two, which is a good thing. We always recommend using at least two straps to secure any item down. So if one happens to fail, you still have some backup on it. When we compare these straps to other straps, I like the way they feel. I like the way the ratchet mechanism works. I like the way it releases. The SmartWeb, I like that because it's going to be more tough and durable like we talked about. The only area I think they could've maybe improved the strap a little bit would be on the identification of sides. You'll notice there's a lot of straps out there on the market that are going to have one side printed with their name. The other side's going to be bare. That way you can identify which way is which. Straps get twisted. It's not a big deal, but it's nice to have them nice and flat, generally helps the ease of use a little bit with that. So, I think they could've printed on the other side of the strap just so you can identify which was which. Now, with any strap/tie-down chain, you're going to have two weight limits that you'll be concerned with. The first is going to be the safe working load limit. That's the one you want to follow. In this case, our straps have a thousand safe working load limit. The maximum break strength limit on the strap is 3,000 pounds. You see that in a lot of situations, either straps or tie-downs, where they have two; go with that safe working load limit. With that being said, when you're attaching your straps to your X-Track or your E-Track, you need to ensure that you have proper mounting on that track. If you only have a couple screws holding this in, doesn't matter what the capacity of the strap is, you're going to pull those out. So make sure that's properly secured and it's up to par for whatever you intend on strapping to it. That'll complete our look at the CargoSmart 2" wide 16' long Ratchet Straps for E-Track and X-Track, part number 348899.
