Just received the 41/48 inch hitch extension today so haven’t actually used it. However, one can tell the high quality by looking at the welds and thick paint coating. This item is extremely heavy. I expected some weight to it, but it surprised me. Also, the tubing has very tight tolerances. I have two ball mounts, neither of which slid into the extension on their own. I had to pound them in and tap them out with a 3 pound hammer. Once paint and labels were scraped away by this action the ball mounts were able to be slid in by hand. This extension will be used on my dually carrying my truck camper. I’ll be towing an aluminum trailer with a Can Am Spyder. Total weight towed will be less than 2000 pounds so I don’t expect the extension to be subjected to any stress.

The hitch extender worked as expected. I towed the light weight aluminum trailer with the Can Am Spyder with approximately 200lb tongue weight. I only used the standard safety chains. I didn’t think I needed any chain tensioners. The setup worked perfectly. The longest towing distance was from Georgia to Arkansas and back. No issues whatsoever.

Delivery was really fast but the box that it was delivered in was in two pieces and the seven pin bracket was bent and paint was chipped but everything else was up to what I expected

Man.. I am sorry your order arrived that way. I sent this to a customer service rep to help you.

by:

Would have given this 5 stars if it weren’t for the packaging and minor shipping damage. It was just stuck in a box that was way way to large for it, no padding or anything. I’m amazed it was even still in the box all things considered. But that said the extension itself is very well made, super solid.

by:

As per my last 3 orders here are some pictures of how I received the item along with what was broke or bent. I can fix it but I shouldn’t have to. So I will try elsewhere from now on cant deal with your shipping dept , anymore.

I bent all the parts back

by:

The hitch was perfect and what I wanted. Unfortunately the wrapping was horrible and by the time it was delivered it was almost out of the box. Nothing protecting the part. No bubble wrapping just part lose in a card board box. Fortunately no scratches and dings. Last I wish it would come with a bolt for how they charged.

by:

Not sure what other people are talking about but the holes all lined up perfectly and the 48” tube steel fit perfectly with very little movement. That can be remedied with a simple hitch clamp but I don’t think I need it. Very solid with some weight to it. Adding the wire extension the holes also in perfect alignment. I chose to order direct from the website, I feel I will get the best product and customer service. Expensive but much needed to haul my trailer with truck camper. Always great stuff from etrailer.

by:

I purchased the hitch extension to accomendate our bike rack to go on the back of our truckcamper. I also purchased the bike rack and steps at all work perfectly together. The extension is very heavy duty and can be used for towing a boat. The only con was not the extension it was the packageing it beat itself up. I also added turnbuckles and safety chain and electrical extension.

by:

Item was damaged upon arrival. That was probably done in shipping. Other than the damage it is a very well built hitch.

I've bought Reese products in the past with no problems but this time one of the pin holes wasn't drilled completely through. It kinda makes one worry about quality control. These hitch extenders carry a lot of weight and if the quality doesn't match the demand it can be very dangerous. This is not a cheap product so I expected higher quality.
Also, the hitch hole cover was broken, not a big deal but the hitch was just thrown into a box with no packaging material and sent on its merry way. When the box arrived it was obvious the box had see some tough times in it's journey to it's new home. I know this is a heavy unit but it looked like everybody along the way hated it!
I've ordered a number of items from etrailer and they have been quick, responsive to questions and priced well, so this isn't a bad mark on their efforts.

by:

I ordered this from etrailer and it was fast and simple. I got it within days. I think this will work well with my pickup camper and trailer combo. The only problem I had was that there was too much paint on it. So much so that it would not fit into my receiver. I am sure they are mass produced, but they should have someone put a micrometer on them once in awhile. I have a 2018 Ram 3500 with a 2 1/2 inch receiver. I tried a friends exact same extension and it slid in easily. Oh, well. I made it work anyways.

by:

I would love to give this a high review BUT-the silver "Reese" cover was destroyed in shipment-not Reeses fault, but the following is 1) the mounting plate for the 7-pin connector was welded on poorly, the weld itself was strong but so poorly done that the mounting plate on the 7 pin extension cord mounting bracket would not mount flush nor would the bolt holes line up-I had to leave one of the 4 bolts out. 2) the cover ring at the reiver end, where you install your ball hitch was also so poorly welded, off center in all 4 directions. So bad that it would not take some ball hitches and others had to be "forced fit" to get them in because the welded cover plate actually closed off the receiver end by about a 1/16 of an inch, doesn't seem like much but on a receiver that has to fit snuggly it's a mile. 3) the distance from the pin hole at trucks end to end of extension was too long-it hit spare tire and I had to cut off 1 1/4 inches to get the extension to fit and not hit the spare tire. Other than those 3 things it had potential.

7500 miles of towing usage thru Canada and the lower 48 states and no problems. That includes smooth and rough roads.

quality product

by:

excellent quality and very durable

by:

Extension is very heavily built. Had a little trouble getting it in the hitch on my 2019 F-350. Hoping it was due to new paint and the cold weather making the hitch slightly smaller.

by:

Product was shipped promptly and in excellent condition. All of the information regarding this product was very helpful, especially the video. I was worried that I needed a heavy duty hitch system but after watching the informational video, I was sure this would work for my set up for towing.

by:

Works as described.

by:

The extension is very heavy duty. Emphasis on heavy. Well built, delivery was very quick.

48" Titan hitch box extension on 2011 F-350 Dually

by:

Excellent service!
Lightning fast shipping!
Great
response rate!
Exactly what I needed for my camper.

by:

Product was slightly damaged on arrival. The box looked like it had been around the world. Damage isn’t sufficient to warrant a replacement but I will need to work on the bracket for the electrical plug. Otherwise the product is VERY heavy duty and likely is twice as strong as the comparable extension from Curt

by:

Great product.Used it for a long road trip this past weekend. Worked great. No issues.

by:

The extension is heavy duty with a smaller square tube inside the outside one. The bracket to attach the 7 pin electrical connector was bent and I had to cut 1 1/2" off the end to make it work because it hit the spare tire of my 2017 RAM 2500.

by:

This is very heavy duty. When I installed it on my Ford F350 the end of the extension bar hit the spare tire when it went thru the receiver and the pin hole was about a 1/4 hole off. I had to trim the end about 1" to make it so it would clear the spare tire.

Hitch extension was a bit loose in the receiver which is typical and expected. I bought a hitch clamp to take care of the play and everything works fine.

Philip B.

8/20/2019

After a year the hitch extension is still working great. As I said before I added a hitch clamp as the extension was loose in receiver - without this the trailer would be bouncing up and down a lot. It is a solid piece of metal and weighs quite a bit. I am only pulling a drift boat so this hitch extension works great because the trailerboat weight is less than 800 lbs. There is a limit to tongue weight for this extension so be aware of this and know what your actual trailer weights are. Overall I am very happy.

by:

I give this 5 stars for its robust design and functionality. It was not an easy install though. The 5/8" pin hole on my hitch did not line up very well with the pin hole on this hitch extension. In all fairness, it could have been my hitch, although other extenders I tried did line up...We use this to tow a 4000 lb jeep behind a truck camper with a 2016 Ram 3500 dually.

Rob

11/11/2019

This hitch extension is still working great. We have used it to tow our jeep over 25,000 miles with no problems.

  • Can Reese Titan Hitch Extender part # RP45018 be Used to Flat Tow Vehicle
The Reese Titan Hitch Extender part # RP45018 that you referenced can be used to flat tow a vehicle like you are wanting it to so this would work fine as long as you have a 2-1/2 inch hitch installed on your truck.

  • Why the Weight Carrying Rating is Higher on Longer Titan Hitch Extender # RP45018 than Short One
I ran this by my contact at Reese. This is a little tricky but I can explain. If you look at the pictures I have included for each Titan Hitch Box Extension (# RP45018 and # RP45292) you will notice that the distance between the 2 hitch pin holes is different by 3 inches. On the longer extension the distance between the furthest out hole and the end of the receiver is longer which allows it to carry more weight at 41 inches. The 3 inch difference is the key factor.

  • Does the Titan Hitch Box Extension Bend Upward at the End
The Titan hitch extender # RP45018 does have a slight bend in it closer to the receiver end. This is to help compensate for any sag caused by the length and weight of the extender so there basically won't be a difference in height between the hitch receiver and the receiver on the extender.

Yes! You will be able to use the Titan Hitch Box Extension for 2-1/2" Trailer Hitches, 41" - 48" Long # RP45018 while flat-towing your 2010 Jeep Wrangler. According to the specs on your 2010 Jeep JK 2-door, that vehicle weighs 3,839 pounds. With that weight, you are under the 4,000 pound towing capacity at 48 inches and 5,000 pound of maximum towing capacity at 41 inches. It is important to note, though, not to exceed the weight rating of your hitch or your 2013 Chevy Silverado 3500.

  • What is the Tongue Weight Capacity of Titan Hitch Extender # RP45018 at 48 Inches
At the 48 inch length the Titan Hitch Box Extension # RP45018 would have a 400 pound tongue weight capacity. If you use this to carry a motorcycle I strongly recommend tying off the furthest ends of the carrier to the truck to limit the amount of vertical movement. The best solution would be to use a small trailer designed to carry 1 motorcycle. It is the safest option and puts much less stress on the hitch. We do not have any trailers like that but you can find a lot of options online.
