Installation
This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area, either behind the driver's-side trim panel or in the spare tire compartment. You will need to remove some interior paneling to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the connector, insert the provided fuse into the in-line fuse holder.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed in your rear cargo area.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plug on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

This is probably the third wiring adapter I’ve brought from etrailer & they’re always plug & play. The only thing that varies is where the connector is located in the vehicle. Luckily Subaru places them in an easy to reach location. Out new 2022 Outback was the easiest yet. The instructions say to “Store the 4-Flat connector in the spare tire compartment when not in use”. I don’t like the idea of it being closed in the tailgate when in use so I run it through an oval I cut in the spare tire well using a grommet and silicone sealant to ensure it says water tight. The extra wiring is secured to the back side of the bumper and just enough lead hanging out to connect to my utility trailer.
The product was boxed well and was the easiest thing to install! I purchased the wiring harness along with the trailer hitch. The trailer hitch was a little cumbersome but I was able to do the whole thing by myself. This is the second hitch/harness I have purchased from etrailer and I have had great success with both!

After a year and pulling many loads, both heavy and light, this set-up is still top notch. Everything is working great. I don’t believe there’s a simpler way to go about installing your own wiring harness.
I wish that all of the companies that I deal with were as easy to work with! The staff is exceptional,making purchases a simple transaction. The install video was spot on made using my year and model of vechicle. The car to trailer wiring that I purchased is very well made and works perfectly. Thank you Etrailer.com for a simple transaction, I will be shopping with you again.
The installation was quick and easy thanks to the online video and it tested ok.

The wiring harness has been working perfectly
Very nice quality hitch and wiring harness. 24 Subaru Crosstrek. Easy half hour install on the hitch and 10 minute plug and play on the trailer harness. Very helpful folks at etrailer and super fast shipping
Hitch came in great shape! Got the car apart the fist time and the hardware was wrong??. I called customer service and they shipped me the right one very quickly. Hitch went on easily with minor issues. The trailer harness was literally a plug in job works perfect. On the Subaru wilderness I was able to use a straight hitch. Over all very pleased.
Looks good; not installed yet, which will be easy with the quick connector mated to the one provided in the vehicle.

It works fine in our 2019 Outback. It takes patience to fish out the vehicles installed connector if you dont want to remove the interior panel, risking damage to clips, fasteners, etc. But once done, its out of sight, out of mind, and most importantly, out of the way!
Installing this was SO EASY. I am not an electrician or a mechanic and have never modified any car before, but watching the installation video on the website was super helpful and I pretty much couldn't have done it without the video! I installed this in 30 minutes. I bet a person could do it even faster than that if they were more experienced than I am!
Installed hitch and wiring all went as expected a smooth easy install, everything works as advertised , the you tube video made the installation easy and the instructions were clear and understandable. We enjoy E-Trailer , will be ordering again soon . Thanks David
Easy to install with, E trailer instalation videos. Used for a small utility trailer many times over the last year with no problems.
Very easy install the wiring kit on 2019 Subaru Crosstrek. I watched the e-trailer video first, ordered the part and trim tool in the video. It took 15 minutes to install.
Appears to be of quality construction. Plugs right into connector. Would be super if the flat 4pin plug would fit through round body plug! Not the fault of part!
I purchased this hitch and a wiring harness for my Subaru Crosstrek to haul a small aluminum boat. The installation of the hitch was fairly easy, the lighting harness was easier!
I am quite pleased with the product and would recommend it to friends.
I bought a Curt hitch for my Subaru Outback to allow me to mount a bike rack on it. Therefore I didn't think I'd need the tail light kit when I had it installed. I was wrong.
So adding the light kit later I wanted to install myself if possible. The guys at etrailer.com were great. The kit I thought I needed wasn't quite right for my needs, and they guided me to the proper model. It was inexpensive and easy to install-way easier than I ever imagined. The videos on-line clearly showed to process, and I think I got a professional looking job. Kudos to the etrailer team.
he module in the middle was smaller than my last replacement, which failed (my Forester is getting old and I had a water leak that gets into the area where the module sits, which has since been sealed). The output wires leading to the 4-pin connector are labeled with their function, which helped me splice the existing wiring to the 4-pin connector, since the new harness has no body grommet under the spare tire, and it didn’t appear to be a standard grommet – I realize that would make the part unreturnable, but that was not an issue for me in this case. The bottom line is that the Subaru harness is a lot more expensive, and serves the same purpose, as this one, and the only thing the Subaru harness would add would be that grommet under the spare tire.
Fits great under my 2022 Subaru outback. It is hardly noticeable. I definitely would recommend this hitch. Great product for the price.
2020 Subaru Outback XT. Easy to install. Used some silicone sealant to secure the module where it would be out of the way and not liable to be damaged. Works well.
well haven't put it in yet but the video tells me it should not be hard. I know i did the trailer hitch for my subaru forester that went easy.

Best price; best hitch for my vehicle; website easy to navigate and order; excellent diy installation videos; my shipping was free and received my order quickly.
The most difficult part of installing this trailer wiring kit was removing all of the junk I accumulated in my rear compartment to access the connector harness.
Once I did it only took like 3 minutes to completely install and put the floor back in place.
It works flawlessly, but here's a little hint - do not allow your trailer 4-pin connector to be stored outside without a rubber insulating boot on ot to prevent corrosion or wasps from making a mud nest inside it. I use aluminum foil wrapped around in and dielectric grease.

The installation process was fast and exactly the way it was described. The wiring harness is exactly as explained and there is plenty of length. It’s perfect for my homegrown jet ski trailer that needed a longer connection. After a year it still looks new.
the wiring harness is working well. Spends a lot of time riding around since our towed vehicle is continually used. Initial setup was daunting but we have a great installer Terry's Auto in Fullerton, Ca.
This harness was easy to install and after a year, still works great! I chose not run this under the car. I just run it out of the hatchback when needed. This was easier to install and I don't use it that often so it meets my needs.
