Features:

  • Provides a 4-way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights
    • Compatible with 5-pole, 6-pole and 7-pole adapters (sold separately)
  • Connects quickly and easily - no cutting or splicing of wires

Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located beneath the rear of your vehicle, on the passenger's side.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Got the correct one but it was too short. I need to order an extender if you have one.

We dont have any extenders, unfortunately. The manufacturer makes these to be installed EXCATLY how they outline it in the instructions...they really dont leave much wiggle room for any variation in installing it. But if you really wanted to extend the length, you could splice in more wiring if you use the same gauge wire.

2014 Ford Explorer

etrailer has become my go-to source for towing-related products. Last year I bought a custom Curt receiver hitch and wiring kit for my 2014 Ford Explorer. Great product, easy installation for both.

This wasn't a surprise, because prior to this purchase, I bought a custom Curt receiver hitch and wiring kit for my 2012 Ford Taurus with equally positive results.

I did both installations myself.

Mark B.

7/24/2018

Love it! Two receivers and two wiring kits. I know where to shop with confidence.

by:

Very easy installation. Plugs into the OEM wiring system. Bought item with the Draw tite hitch (76034) and curt mounting bracket (C42CR). Primaryuse is to power my Curt LED auxiliary LED light on my bike rack and flexibility power trailer lights as needed. Used recently to tow a trailer on a long trip with zero issues.

This is exactly what I was looking for and no auto parts store near me had it.

Really like the way the Curt trailer hitch receiver looks on my 2017 Explorer. Class III receiver should be adequate for my 19’ center console boat. Thanks.

Super easy to install, installation video was very helpful. Lights all work on the trailer.

The entire process from looking up my hitch and wiring online, to speaking with the Knowledgeable staff to place my order, then to receiving it, was a smooth process! Then the helpful videos on how to install was great!!! Never have I done business with a company that takes great care of their customers!! I will definetly be a returning customer!

2019 Ford Explorer

I have purchased two different trailer hitches and wiring harnesses for two separate vehicles from etrailer.com; one for a 2019 Toyota Camry and one for a 2013 Ford Explorer. The installation of the hitches went totally without incident as did the wiring harnesses. The combination of directions and videos made both installations a real easy job. I commend etrailer.com for doing their homework. I would and have highly recommend etrailer.com products to anyone. In fact, the hitch/harness for the 2013 Ford I installed was for the priest of our parish. As for customer service again, it is second to none. Stacey A (my contact) was extremely professional, knowledgable, and helpful. Thank you etrailer.com for your superior products and service. -Ron-

I have absolutely nothing negative to say. Today, as from day one, I am 100 satisfied with my purchase and my installation. I believed enough in my purchase that I bought ordered one for our priest - he has only words of praise for the product.

2013 Ford Explorer

SUPER EASY! I have a 2013 Ford Explorer XLT without the tow package, and this device tests out fine, and works great. Installed in about 30 seconds. It took longer to drill the grounding screw and tie down the cords than it did to install. It was as simple as pinch and open, plug in one side, plug in the other side. When you hear a click on both plugs you're done. The videos on this product were perfect, exactly what I needed to see. Others have said that there were issues with the backup sensor after installing this device, but I have not noticed any difference in the back up camera or back up sensor.

Tabitha B.

11/5/2014

I dont have the tow package either. When I watch the installation video it looks like there are actually two wiring harnesses near the rear passenger side. My vehicle only has one. Would like to know if yours was the same before I order to be sure it will work? TIA for your response.

Brian D.

11/7/2014

My explorer just had one wiring harness, and it works fine.

Brian D.

6/3/2015

I pulled a car on a tow dolly when I first installed it, but havent pulled any trailers since. At that time it worked perfectly, installed instantly, and worked with U-Haul wiring. I need to pull a trailer soon to move some large items. I have to assume its working fine, but I will let you know after I use it again.

by:
2015 Ford Explorer

I installed this wiring harness on my daughter's 2015 Ford Explorer. It was a simple fit. Just pull off the protective cover on the car's wiring and plug this in. Route the wires along the receiver hitch and secure with zip ties. Done!! Works perfectly from the start.

by:
2014 Ford Explorer

This is the most awesome product out there for the DIY or professional. Ease of use and installation would be an understatement. The videos you supply online are simply priceless.. Took me longer to try and get grounding wire secured than it did to connect the wire harness and install the trailer hitch. Just no room in wheel compartment to get my probably out dated drill. Only glitch I had was the zip ties were too short to go around the trailer hitch tube and the wiring harness. Luckily I have plenty in work shop.

Jarett P.

9/3/2014

Ran into the exact same problem with the grounding screw.Took me over an hour to figure out how to get my drill in there. Eventually lowered my mufflers which made it slightly easier.

Excellent product provided by an excellent team. I've used my trailer a few dozen times already to haul kitchen material (kitchen demo and remodel) to the dump along with picking up wood for the outdoor and indoor fireplaces.

Easiest trailer wiring job I ever installed. Just unplug the vehicle harness and put this one in the line. I watched the video first and it made this a simple task. Great product!

I couldnt be happier!

by:

Same day order processing. Delivered on time. Installation was a breeze. I was very pleasantly surprised to see just how easy installation was. The only issue I ran into was the zip ties supplied with the harness were too short to go around the hitch bar itself. If I didn't have longer zip ties doubling them up would have worked fine.

Everything was as expected. Installation was a piece of cake after watching the very much appreciated video on etrailer.com. The hitch is very sturdy and fit like a glove. I couldn't be happier with this purchase.

Installed in a about a minute. The plug was on passenger side and it was a little stuck from weather and dust but after cleaning it up it just clicked in.

Watched the instruction video and installing the harness was a breeze!

  • Recommended Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2018 Ford Explorer Without Trailer Hitch
The trailer wiring harness options for a 2018 Ford Explorer can be narrowed down to two categories, models with the tow package and models without the tow package. If you don't have a trailer hitch then you won't have the tow package therefore I recommend using the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness part # C56172 if you only need a 4-way or part # C56306 for a 7-way. These options are both plug-n-play. That said, you'd also need a trailer mounting bracket to install either option,...

  • 2016 Ford Interceptor Utility Trailer Wiring Harness Availability

For that you would want the # C56172. From there you would need to convert the 4-way to a 7-way so that you can install the brake controller. For that you will want the Brake Controller Install Kit and 7-Way Adapter part # ETBC7. I attached installation instructions and an install video for this product as...

  • Finding The Correct Wiring Harness For A 2017 Ford Explorer Base Model
It looks like you have already tried installing a wiring harness like the Curt # C56172. The fact that it is not fitting could mean a few things.
