Trailer Wiring Options for a 2014 Ford Explorer without Tow Package
Question:
Hello, I have a 2014 Explorer, base model without the towing package. I will be purchasing the Curt hitch, but my question is concerning the wiring for the trailer. Under my truck on the right side behind the rear tire, I see the plug where the T-connector would plug in. It has a dummy plug in it, in other words the harness ends right there. Would this T-connector plug into the factory harness, and then I plug the dummy plug into the other end of the T-connector? I would much rather use this setup then the 56146KIT which requires running a wire all the way up to the battery. Thanks

If you use a circuit tester like our part # PTW2993 to test the pins of the plug you found and they are active when you apply taillight functions the # C56172 would work. If none of the circuits are activated when the taillight functions are applied you would have to use the # C59496.
I attached an install video for both wiring options that show them being installed on a 2014 Ford Explorer just like yours to the right.
