When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. The actuator telescopes, applying force to its master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.

Not a fan because of the screw down and up for ball attachment. Unit Itself works great.

Very good and easy to install on my 1998 boat trailer. Not a fan of the screw down coupler but thats a minor issue....

by:

Bolted right on with no problem. Now to pull off the hubs and check the wheel cylinders

by:

I absolutely hate the twist lock on it. Received this twist lock style instead of what was pictured with a flip latch. Called to speak my piece about it and was told it was all they had. Now I'm stuck with it. I hate it!

by:

Direct Bolt on, better than welding. Surge Brake Line connected just fine. Bled Brakes. Test drive was successful. What more could you ask for. I chose the hand tightening knob over the Lever because it was more assuring to me that it was tight on the ball and the locking mechanism has never failed. I have used Titan surge actuators for 40 years. I am using this actuator on a 4,000 lbs. boat and trailer. On my way to the lake!

by:

This is an inferior product as it has no opening to pump brake fluid for bleeding brakes like better actuators. You must use a 2X4 or other items to pump actuator. Also, better actuators have auto lock with locking pin for securing to towing ball rather than a screw down. This actuator is outdated and I replaced it with a better product.

by:

Product was as ordered. Shipped promptly. Only been used two times and works fine

by:

Great product works great on my boat trailer

by:

So far it looks like it will work. We have yet to install it.

by:

Bolted right onto the trailer. No instructions and the link on the web sit didn't work but what do you need for two bolts. Wouldn't have minded some guidance with bleeding the brakes but got it done anyway.
Greatly improved the towing of my boat trailer!
Good price. Shipping good. What else would you want!?

Well, it worked great till I sold the boat last October. Shocked about the follow-up! Wow

by:

Excellent value, great heavy duty product, fast and easy installation, perfect fit.
Can't ask for more!

by:

Fast delivery & looks like the right brake actuator will install later this spring boat in storage. Very good service will recommend my friends to your company. Thanks for your help David Castle

Its working great replaced my 26 year old brake actuator

by:

Excellent product. This was almost an exact replacement for the original one that was on my boat trailer. I had the boat out about once a week this summer and the actuator worked perfectly. Braking was smooth and it locks down easily on the hitch ball. I highly recommend this actuator.

by:

Very easy to install, I took the old unit off and had the new one installed in less than an hour. I hooked the trailer to my truck and primed the Hydraulic cylinder before I attached the brake line. No problems.

by:

Seems to be what I needed to have replaced, was easy to install. Only problem, NO instructions. I did find video suggestions online.

by:

This product perfectly replaced my tongue master cylinder on my 1992 Capri boat trailer. It bolted right up and the brake line thread was the same. It was super easy. It is a huge improvement!

by:

Perfect replacement for my existing brake. I'm using this brake coupled with the Titan actuator W/reverse lockout solenoid since there is no manual lockout and I don't have free backing brakes.

by:

I cannot say enough about etrailer!! I ordered my part at a much cheaper price than I would have paid locally, it was mailed the same day and I got it three days later!! When ordering, I spoke to Shawn who was very professional and very precise in my wishes......she made me feel like a very valuable customer!! The part arrived in perfect shape and was easy to install. I would not hesitate to order from etrailer again!! Keep up the good work!!

by:

Arrived corroded and not functioning properly. I had to disassemble and clean the rust that was on the inside of the fluid reservoir and the piston. I would have sent back but I needed it at the time. The piston was frozen. It took some time for me to figure this out.

by:

The master cylinder leaks around the ca p.

DO NOT...I REPEAT DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF JUNK (I have stronger words but you get the idea) You get this piece of junk and ZERO info. I'm going to stop reviewing now before I go off the deep end!

by:

Just as shown online product fit perfect great to see a company that has great service and low prices. I will buy again when I need something. Brake actuator looks exactly like my old one saved a lot of time and money.

by:

The part was a perfect fit and the service was prompt and friendly. I had a question and the person on live chat was friendly and helpful. I would definitely use etrailer again

by:

good stuff, nice product, shipped fast, exact fit / this is just what I wanted I had questions called and asked and got answers / the price couldn't be beat I tried other on line and local stores / am a happy camper I would buy here again.

  • What is a Brake Controller and How do the Brakes on a Trailer Work
The brakes on a trailer work by either using a hydraulic system with a surge brake actuator, like part # T43397007K, or by a brake controller in the tow vehicle sending a signal back to the electric trailer brakes. Controllers like the P3 # 90195 have different settings and a manual override for emergency braking situations. I am not sure where the fuse box would be located on your 1993 Award Travel Trailer but the one for your tow vehicle should be under the hood. You can find the locations...

  • Replacement Actuator For Older Tie Down 70LC
We have exactly what you are looking for. Based on my research your Tie Down 70LC has a 7000lb rating and uses a 2" hitch ball. If your trailer has drum brakes I recommend the Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator - Drum - Multi-Fit Ball - Bolt On - 7,000 lbs # T43397007K and if you have disc brakes I recommend the # DM62VR instead. Both of these options will bolt on to your 3" wide channel tongue. The # DM62VR includes and electric lockout solenoid but the # T43397007K does not. You can...

  • Parts Needed For Installing Trailer Brakes On a Yacht Club Single 3,500LB Axle Pontoon Boat Trailer
The best option would be to go with Disc Brakes # DE66YR. These are the best option as they repel water better than other trailer brakes and will offer superior braking. This will require the Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator # T47457107K and Brake Line Kit # HS496-251. The brake actuator uses a electric lockout so you will need a 5-way for your tow vehicle. If you have a 7-way then you will need an Adapter # A75TB or a Kit # C57187 can be used to change a 4-way to a 5-way. You could also go...

  • Best Way to Lock a Trailer With a Screw Type Multi Fit Ball
I have a solution but this is not surprising with that style of coupler. There is no good way to lock it. Thinking a different direction though you could use the etrailer Trailer Wheel Lock part # 288-02020 this will give you the perfect solution for when it is stored or when you are at the launch and out on the boat to prevent theft. The only time this will not work where a typical hitch pin would is when you are actually driving down the road. Sorry there isn't a typical solution but...

It sounds like you are asking if the Titan Zinc-Plated, Leverlock Brake Actuator # T43397007K does not have a lockout that will allow the trailer to be reversed without the brakes being applied. However, you can easily add one if desired. If you have a coupler without the reverse lockout included, then you would want to either run "free-backing" brake assemblies or install an electric lock out solenoid like the Titan Part # T4748800 so that you can reverse your trailer with out brakes...
