Video Transcript for Roadmaster Tow Bar Wiring RM-794 Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to take a look at the Roadmaster heavy duty Hy-Power diodes for a quantity of four. Now, this will allow motor homes or RVs to power the lights on the tow vehicle without power feedback. The diodes will permit electrical current to flow in only one direction, from the motor home to the car, preventing any electrical feedback and the damage that it can cause to the tow car's electrical components. This part is for a quantity of four diodes with the 12 spade terminals included to hook this up. It is a heat sink design on the diode and this does reduce wiring hassles. It's a trouble-free operation. It does include detail wiring instructions on the back here, and the maximum load is 85 amps per diode.

That should do it for the review on the Roadmaster heavy duty Hy-Power diodes for a quantity of four.

These things worked perfectly for my needs. I used one on my 4500 Chevy Kodiak air compressor for the air ride seats. I wanted to be able to turn the compressor on/off without starting the truck, and still have it run when the ignition switch is on. These diodes allow that to happen. I also plan to add one to control the reverse lights. It will allow me to use the reverse lights when I load things in the nighttime without having to start the truck and put it in reverse.

by:

The diodes are great, but the wiring term. should be weather seal type.

by:

I have used these in the past so when i got a new tow vehicle i bought them again.
They make wiring up the lights on a tow vehicle a snap. I have never had one fail.

I installed these diodes on my wifes 2006 VW Jetta TDI to isolate the signal and tail light system from my tow vehicle. The system works as planned and the quality of the parts are excellent!

VW/Audi products are notorious for system glitches when you drive the stock lights with a tow vehicle. I routed standalone wires from the front bumper mounted bulkhead plug to the rear of the car down the inside of the drivers side rocker panel and into the trunk area.

by:

i installed this product in my golf cart because when i have to load the golf cart onto the trailer to take it to get repaired i can connect the golf cart to the truck and the trailer lights to the connecter at the back of the golf cart so that all the lights work

by:

Great product and awesome service!

by:

perfect for my project -- using to tie flood lamps to rear of fire apparatus to use in conjunction with back up lamps and separately use the floodlights to be switched at the back of the apparatus

by:

Easy to install in-line of your towed vehicle. Use your toad's own lighting and eliminate magnet sets or additional lighting installs. As easy as wiring a trailer. Make towing your toad as simple as possible. You owe it to yourself.

by:

The base plate is easy to use and looks great on our MKX. The installation videos are very detailed and precise.

by:

Diodes work as designed. They eliminate additional lights and prevent the need to drill a hole in the tail light assembly. I used these on a previous vehicle and they are still problem free after eight years.

by:

easy to install

by:

I've used this product several times over the years and found the best price for this quality product here at Etrailer.com. The service was great with fast shipping and no damage to my items.

I'll definitely buy for them again.

Always a pleasure to work with this company. And this time Alyssa was big help. Thank you.

by:

Fair price, delivered as agreed on time. Would buy again from this vendor.
Only reason I did not give this five stars is that I have yet to actually hook them up in the wiring system to enable my factory lights on the towed vehicle to be operational when taken on a trip behind my RV.

by:

Roadmaster makes great quality products, and Stacey A is great to work with!

by:

Installing Baseplate an wire tailites for towinginstructions were great, the plate fit very good. The diodes work fine but wireing a ford edge for towing was hard an room for the diodes back of the tailites was very limited .I would very highly recomend your products

by:

Wired up 2012 Jeep JKU for towing behind RV. These 4 diodes worked perfectly! Watched trailer video, it was easy.

by:

These little beauties perform exactly as described. e trailer is a great company to deal with. I highly recommend them!

by:

This is a solid product. The package had sufficient instructions for installation by someone who had never installed the diodes before.

by:

Shipping was fast, product worked as ad vertised.

by:

This was much easier than I anticipated. The instruction video of my car was exactly my model and clearly showed every step. Even my wire colors were all exactly the same in the video. I’m impressed.

by:

Product looks like good quality. Seems to be plenty of instructions on line to assure a successful installation.

by:

I use these to wire my tail lights on my cars to work with my motor home. Have used these on my vechicles since 2002, never a failure.

  • What is the Voltage and Amperage Rating for Roadmaster Diodes
Roadmaster diode # RM-790 is rated for a maximum of 24 volts and 85 amps. So you can use it on a 12 or 24 volt system as long as the amperage draw does not exceed 85 amps. At 30 volts that would exceed the rated capacity of the diode and eventually you would have to replace the diode if the voltage was sustained over 24 volts long enough and/or frequent enough.

  • Replacement Roadmaster Diode Recommendation
Part number # RM-794 is for 4 diodes, so while it would work for you a better option would be to order a quantity of 3 of the part # RM-790 as that is a single diode.

  • Are the Roadmaster Hy-Power Diodes Water Tight
As long as you are not exceeding the 85 amps at 12 volts per diode max load then you can definitely use the configuration in your diagram. I spoke with my contact at Roadmaster who said that the connections are not watertight but the internal components are. You would either need to find a way to make the connections watertight (as you mentioned in your diagram) or simply wipe the connections off if you were to go off-road with your 2011 Jeep Wrangler and get the diode(s) wet. • Are Diodes Needed For Installing Roadmaster InvisiBrake on Jeep Wrangler
Appreciate the purchase and yes, you will need diodes for your Jeep Wrangler when installing the Roadmaster InvisiBrake Supplemental Braking System # RM-8700. Per Roadmaster, even with a plug-in wiring harness like you have, you would still need to install diodes, and for that use the Roadmaster Hy-Power Diodes # RM-794.

  • Does my Tow Bar Wiring Harness Require the use of Hy-Power Diodes
Wherever you use the RV to signal the vehicle's factory lights, diodes will be needed to stop the backflow of electricity. If you are using a set of external lights like part # TL21RK then the diodes will not be needed but since you have the wiring harness attached to your factory lights then you will want to use a set of diodes like part # RM-794. I have attached a diode installation help article for you to take a look at as well.

  • Flat Towing Base Plate Kit for 2021 Chevy Blazer with 3.6L Engine
By twist lock couplers, I'm assuming you're speaking of a flat towing base plate kit. A Saturn vehicle and a Chevy Blazer would use a different base plate kit, so you'll need to get a new kit. As long as your Blazer doesn't have the skid plate, the Roadamaster # RM-523204-5 kit will work great for you. As far as a wiring goes, you can piece together a kit using the # RM-794 diodes, a length of # 16-4B-1 wire long enough to reach the vehicle taillights from the front bumper, a # RM-910030-7...

  • Are Diodes Required for Tow Bar Lighting Harness for 2018 Jeep JL Wrangler
If you have a plug and play tow bar lighting harness that fits your 2018 Jeep JL Wrangler you would not need additional diodes and you'd be good to go as-is. Now if you have a plug and play trailer wiring harness you should note that these cannot be used in reverse as tow bar lighting so you would need to go with a lighting kit like the Roadmaster # RM-15267.

Since you have connected your Winnebago to both your Jeep and boat trailer and are experiencing the same issue it is likely related to the vehicle wiring on your Winnebago that is the issue. Your situation is a very common one and the solution you proposed is the easiest and most popular solution.
