Video Transcript for Dutton Lainson Hand Winch Strap with Safety Hook Review

Zach: Hey everybody, Zach here at etrailer.com. Today we're going to take a look at a replacement winch strap from Dutton-Lainson. This is going to be ideal if you've worn out or damaged your boat winch strap. And this is going to be a two inch by 25 foot in length. So it's pretty decent length and is pretty standard size when it comes to that width. Now, this isn't just for Dutton-Lainson winches.

This can also go on other winches. I have it on a Fulton F2 on here today, so it's a really nice way to swap one out and it's got a good material to it. I'm going to loosen this up just a little bit. You can see there, this is a lot like a seatbelt material. It's slick, so I think it's going to do a good job of wrapping around itself.

I don't think it's going to get hung up on anything. Now, when we take a look at the hook on the end of it, it's a pretty standard hook. It seems a little small. It's not like you need something that's really large. If you're in this size strap you're not looking for anything that's really large, but it seems to operate okay. I've tested out some Fulton replacement straps.

I personally like those hooks a little bit better. They look very similar. They just seem to be a little larger, operate a little bit smoother. But overall, this is still going to be a really nice setup for you. It has a working load limit of 2,600 pounds, so that is a pretty good capacity.

That is larger than this boat. It's definitely okay to be safe with that. Now that working load limit, when I say 2,600 pounds, you've got to remember your boat is in the water. This isn't a dry pull weight. You don't want to exceed that. And if your boat does weigh a little bit more than that, it's okay because that water is helping you out with that. But when it comes to keeping it secured to your trailer, you have a few other straps in places as well so they're all working together to make sure that you have that strapped down properly. Overall, it's pretty easy to swap out. All I had to do was for this one I took the lid off just to access down in the winch. But if you have an exposed winch, usually it's just a bolt that runs through it and it's held in place with a nut. Now this does come with a couple different bolts to fit that need. If you have a center cross pin like this style, it will also work with that loop end.Let's just walk you through how we got this one put in place. To get these swapped out, first, you need to extend out your old worn out strap. And with this Fulton winch here today, this one's a little bit different than some. The way this one works is this is held in place with this loop end with that pin there. So it's just a loose pin that locks itself in place to that center section. Some winches have a bolt nut, and that's where that included bolt and nut will come in handy. I'm going to set this one aside and get my new winch strap ready. And then we can take the new strap and we're going to do the opposite. So we're just going to feed it through there. And I'm going to use that pin again. This is when you would just put that bolt and nut in place, and then you just pull it until it gets tight there and we can start ratcheting it back up. Then when we get to the end, we can get that hook in place on our bow eye there and take out the rest of that slack. Now, the first time you put this on, if you don't have any tension in place, the strap will be loose sitting on itself. So you'll want to make sure that you're getting all that out of there.Let it pull on itself a little bit, and we'll be good to go. You can see that one wasn't too difficult of an installation, even for having a different brand of winch like this Fulton one. So whether you have a Dutton-Lainson winch or a Fulton or another brand, this is going to be a really good replacement and especially if you're looking for something with a little bit higher capacity. But that's going to do it for our look at the Dutton-Lainson Replacement Strap for winches..

Hand winch strap with a safety hook.

by:

great service as always and the color of straps I was expecting!
thanks George!

by:

Very pleased with my order and shipping was lightning fast.

by:

Arrived well packaged and on time. Great product

by:

It 5’ longer than the stock strap / same quality …just what I needed to haul my car onto the trailer

by:

I used it to make a door lift with the wench I got from you and both work great I used a drill on the wench it will open and close and also hold it open when needed fast shipping and great products

by:

Shipment came 3 days after ordered! I expected on average 10 days.
The Dutton-Lainson Winch is sooo far superior to the winch provided by the trailer manufacturer. I have a 20 ft. tunnel hull bay boat. Tunnel Hull boats are very difficult to maneuver at low trailer loading speeds. The 25 ft. strap allows me to back the trailer in the launch, pull the strap to the boat hook, and reel in. The two speed winch makes this very easy and fast. This set-up prevents damaging the boat by misalignment with the trailer bunks and shallow guides. Great Service with a Great Price!

Still working Great! Only possible improvement in my mind is if someone else trailers my boat for me.

As usual eTrailer products ship quickly and are high quality.

Havent seen it for a year since I put it in the barn last Sept. Worked fine then, thankyou

OK but I like to use the brake as a damper for launching, but as it is steel to steel it chatters. I am going to replace the hub with brass, I am disappointed that you didnt offer that option.

by:

I ordered the 25 foot strap on two separate occasions and spoke to "customer service" each time and BOTH times they sent a 15 foot strap. No apologies, lag time in refund, having to ship back their mistakes, no thanks. I look for usa made products on other sites now.

by:

High quality strap fits snugly in the w inch.

by:

Fit on the winch in place of rope worked out great

Marty

still works like the day I installed it

by:

The winch strap was as advertised - great product at a fair price.
One thing tho' - the nut on the attachment bolt was not a lock nut
which is what the winch instructions called for. Otherwise it was fine.

by:

Product looks good but shipping packaging was very very poor. All items just thrown in a cardboard box with clear plastic wrapping. No pride in product shipped. Cannot give more than 2 stars because of the packaging.

by:

Strap placed on Fulton 2 speed 2600. Loaded onto to winch easily.

by:

Great winch. Bolted right on my 1985 Shorelander trailer with no modification. It has been on my trailer for one year outside in all Ohio weather and still looks and operates like brand new.

by:

I had trouble finding the correct replacement for my winch. They were all too thick and couldnt get enough strap on the reel. However these were the same as the original equipment and worked great.

by:

Perfect pairing for my dutton-lainson w inch

by:

Good quality strap and hook, great service from eTrailer!

by:

The strap was perfect for replacing the strap on my winch. The strap was delivered quickly and was excellent quality.

by:

These straps are the perfect answer to my winch situation and fit my winch as specified. The buying process was perfect and came earlier than expected.
Great service !!

by:

Excellent product and as usual, the delivery time was great!

by:

Nice stitching on the ends and made in the USA.

by:

Wow! I gonna be honest, I'm not the best at turning wrenches. I was able to order everything for my trailor easily. Then it was delivered like fast.

by:

Good quality, easy to install, great web site with very descriptive videos

  • Replacement Strap Recommendation for Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL14627
For a replacement strap that will work great with your Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL14627 I highly recommend the Dutton-Lainson # DL24249. This is a really durable 2 inch wide, 25 foot long strap with a breaking strength of 4,000 pounds. It includes the mounting hardware, hook, and is made right here in the USA. I have attached a short video review that you can check out as well.

  • Will The Dutton-Lainson Winch Work For Loading a 600 LB Motorcycle on Trailer with Drill
The winch you referenced is the Dutton-Lainson Winch, part # DL14730. It has a capacity of 2000 lbs, so it will certainly handle the 600 lbs you mentioned the motorcycle weighs. This winch features a reversible ratchet, hand brake, and has a quick attach handle. I would also recommend the Hand Winch Strap with Safety Hook, part # DL24249. This strap is 2 inches wide and 25 feet long, and has the safety hook attached. The strap has a capacity of 2600 lbs. This combination does not have...

  • Deer Lift Winch Recommendation
The Dutton Lainson Winch part # DL14934 would be perfect for you as it has a brake that takes effect whenever the handle is released. It has a TUFFPLATE finish that is three times more corrosion resistant than standard zinc finishes. It also has a lever that will allow it to free-wheel if needed. Since this winch is rated for up to 1,200 lbs it would easily lift 300 lbs. For a strap you would need the part # DL24249.

  • Winch Strap Compatible With Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL14627
You are correct that the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch with TUFFPLATE Finish, Single Speed - 1,800 lbs. # DL14627 is rated for a 38 foot strap but that is using a strap similar to the Hand Winch Strap with Safety Hook, 2" Wide x 25' Long - 4,000 lbs. # DL24249. We don't have one that is that length, so I can't confirm physically but the manufacturer says that is the case. • Brake Hand Winch to Replace 1500-lb-Rated Shelby 5352
Some Shelby winch models used a handle that secured to the winch with an Allen key. If this is the type you have then it is possible that the set screw or the post on the winch the handle attaches to is stripped or worn to the point that the handle can no longer crank the winch. While we don't have a repair kit for your Shelby 5352 winch we do have a great replacement winch to match what you have since it is a 1,500 lb brake winch. For that you'd want the Dutton Lainson 1,500 lb Winch...

  • Choosing The Correct Replacement Boat Trailer Winch Strap For A 24' Cobalt Boat
It can definitely be a very confusing subject when trying to determine the correct size winch and strap for your boat. The important thing to remember is that you are not lifting the entire weight of the boat but rather pulling it across the bunk boards or rollers and typically you will still have some buoyancy of the boat in the water. For bunk boards I use the 2:1 ratio. This means that the winch and strap should have a working load rating at least one half the weight of the boat to...

  • Shelby 5408B Winch Replacement Recommendation
The max rating of your Shelby 5408B is 1,900 lbs which would be more than adequate for a 2,200 lb boat as typically the ratio for winch capacity to boat weight is 2 to 1. For a similarly rated winch we have the part # DL14627 which is rated for 1,800 lb. For a strap to use with this we have the part # DL24249.

  • Boat Winch Recommendation for a 20ft Pontoon Boat With No Rollers
When it comes to choosing a winch for a boat trailer, there are a few general rules we can use. The boat-size-to-winch capacity is generally 2 to 1. With good rollers and short winching distances, the ratio can increase to 3 to 1 and with wooden bunks and long winching distances, you will want to reduce the capacity to 1 to 1. When your're loading and unloading much of the weight is supported by the water, which will lighten the load. However, it is better to go with a winch with higher...

In order to suggest the correct replacement winch, you'll need to pick a winch with a capacity at least half (or more) of the weight of the boat. Choosing a winch is one of those times when you'll want to use a little overkilll as far as the capacity goes, the closer the winch capacity is to the weight of the boat, the easier it'll be to crank and the longer the winch will last because it won't be working so hard. The dry weight of your boat is around 1010 lbs, but the fully-loaded package...

  • Replacement For Dutton-Lainson Winch DL2000
The Dutton-Lainson DL2000 is indeed different as it is an earlier model of the DL2000A; I checked with Dutton-Lainson and they do not offer replacement parts for the older DL2000, and said that parts are not interchangeable between models. So while I know that is not the news you were looking to hear, the best option is to replace your DL2000 with the updated DL2000A, which is the following part number: - Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL14725 This is compatible with either the Hand Winch...

The BoatBuckle Boat Winch Strap with Hook and Safety Latch - Loop End - 3" x 25' - 5,000 lbs # IMF14213 is exactly 3 inches wide. I pulled it from the warehouse and measured it to confirm. If that is too wide, I recommend the BoatBuckle Boat Winch Strap with Hook and Safety Latch - Loop End - 2" x 25' - 8,000 lbs # IMF14211 or the Hand Winch Strap with Safety Hook, 2" Wide x 25' Long - 4,000 lbs. # DL24249.

Shelby has gone out of business and as such there are no replacement parts we can offer for your Shelby 5470 winch; due to that the best option is going to be a replacement winch. • Hand Winch Recommendation for Sailboat Trailer with Roller Bunks
Generally when picking out a winch for a boat trailer the ratio is 2 to 1 meaning you would need a winch with roughly half the capacity as the weight of the boat. With good rollers and a short winching distance the ratio increases to 3 to 1, but with long winching distances and wooden bunks the ratio is 1 to 1. So you have rollers and a long winching distance so 2 to 1 is the correct ratio. That means you would need a 1,500 lb winch at minimum. The Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL14725...

It does indeed. If you flip the pawl vertically toward the line spool, you can easily play out the line but be sure to avoid the handle because it will spin when the line is playing out. The winch can be used with a strap like # DL24249 or with 5/16 inch cable like # DL24102. I've linked to a product description video for the Dutton-Lainson # DL14825 2500 lb capacity hand winch.
