Video Transcript for Demco Trailer Brakes DM5403 Review

Today we're gonna take a look at the Demco Hydraulic Brake Line Kit for tandem axle trailers with drum brakes. These brake lines and fittings will let you run your brake fluid from your brake actuator to your trailer brakes. This kit here is designed for use on tandem axle trailers with drum brakes. The brake lines themselves, if you look, they're stainless steel construction. On the very ends they have a nice double flare design to them. Also on each end they use these brass swivel fittings for nice, easier installation.

Now, the flexible hoses, these two right here, they have a 1/8-inch ecoated steel male and female fittings on either end. Now, this part includes everything shown here on the table, comes with a nice set of detailed instructions on how to install everything on your trailer, and I'm gonna go through all the pieces here. You have your 193-inch long steel brake line. Right here, you'll have two of the 66-inch long steel brake lines, one 30-inch long steel brake line. You have the two 17-inch long steel brake lines, and then a small 4,5-inch steel brake line. The flexible hoses, there's two of them, they're 18 7/8 inches long.

On the parts you have the hose bracket right here, the brake line retainer clip, three of the 3/16 break tees, one 5/8 machine bushing, and then you have eight of the brake line control clips, and then eight of the 1/2-inch self-drilling hex head screws. That should do it for the review on the Demco Hydraulic Brake Line Kit for tandem axle trailers with drum brakes.

It is very quiet in this review. If you have any questions about the brake light kit then I would be happy to answer them.

  • Compatibility of the Demco Hydraulic Brake Line Kit on Disc and Drum Brakes
The Demco Hydraulic Brake Like Kit, # DM5403, can actually be used for both drum and disc trailer brakes. The kit includes the flex hoses that are used to connect the surge metal brake lines to the trailer's brake calipers. The hoses will flex to allow for the movement that brake calipers will do when they are activated and guarantee that there will be no leaks between the metal lines and the calipers.

  • Should I Use Steel Brake Lines Or Rubber Brake Hoses For Adding Hydraulic Brake Lines?
Using a Brake Line Kit # DM5403 that uses all steel lines with the only exception being the rubber lines down to the axle so the suspension can travel will give you the most consistent braking for your trailer. The steel lines will not expand like the rubber lines in the Kit # 18TA-BLKIT. While the steel lines will be more difficult to install and must be bent with the correct tools to prevent putting a kink in the lines it is the better option. You can often rent the tools needed for bending...

  • Do I Need a Hydrualic Brake Line Kit When Installing Hydraulic Brakes or Can I Use Regular Tubing
You're not going to want to customize a brake system like the Demco Hydraulic Brake Line Kit for Tandem Axle Trailers - Drum Brakes # DM5403 for a few reasons. The hard, stainless steel lines are necessary through the majority of the trailer to allow for a frictionless transfer of the brake fluid through the system. The rubber hoses at the ends are required because of the movement of the suspension; you don't want hard lines going to the brake drums because of the movement of the wheels....
