Recommended Replacement A-Frame Tongue Jack for 4500 lb Utility Trailer
Question:
I have a small utility trailer that when fully loaded, weighs about 4500 lbs. It has an a frame tongue with the jack in the middle of the tongue. I drove off with the jack extended and pretty much killed it. Can you recommend a replacement.

Sorry to hear about your jack. I'd be happy to make a recommendation.
Since a trailer's tongue weight is generally 10-15 percent of its total weight, you'll be in the 450-675 lb tongue weight range. We have jacks with tongue weight capacities starting at 750 lbs, but I always recommend going with a heavier capacity than you need. The jack (and you) won't need to work so hard to raise the trailer, and it will therefore last longer. The Bulldog # 2000 lb capacity A-Frame Jack, part # BD155033 would be a good choice. Fully extended, the distance from the mounting bracket to the bottom of the tube is 20-3/16 inches. If you'd like a caster, part # BD500245 would be compatible. Using the caster would reduce the jack's capacity to 1200 lbs, but that will still be plenty of capacity for your small trailer. Adding the caster will add about 7 inches to the lift height.
I've linked you to the product demonstration video for the Bulldog jack I recommended.
