Location to Install Air Lift # AL25870 Wireless ONE Compressor System on 2009 Chevy Silverado

Question:

I have a 2009 Silverado 1500 4x4 crew cab with 5.3L flex fuel engine, six speed transmission, towing package and heavy duty cooling equipment. I installed a pair of air lift 59565 springs a couple years ago and am now looking at installing a compressor. Since I dont want to go through the trouble of running the wiring and air lines into the cab, I am looking at the AL25980 wireless one compressor kit. This truck has a second unused factory battery tray at the front drivers side corner of the engine compartment which would be a convenient location to mount the compressor. The instructions say avoid mounting the compressor under the hood. I watched an etrailer video where another airlift compressor was mounted under the hood of a Ford and would like to get more specific instructions as to if the battery tray location I would like to use would really be a problem or not.

According to my Air Lift representative, you CAN install the compressor on that battery tray in the engine compartment if you wish, but please know that if you do so the high-heat environment of the engine compartment will significantly shorten the life of the compressor. Installing the compressor in that location will also negate the warranty coverage.

My Air Lift rep has the same exact compressor kit on his truck, and he installed his compressor on the inboard side of the truck frame under the cab. He's had his compressor in that location for several years and hasn't had a bit of trouble with it.

When you cut the air line to make your connections to the compressor, be sure to use a tubing cutter like part # AL10530. A line that's not cut perfectly square can leak.
