Should Tire Chains be Used on all Tires for 4 Wheel Drive Vehicles

Question:

I have a2 door 2012 Jeep Sahara. I live in a heavy snow region and wanted to get your PW2028C glacier snow chains. If I use 4WD do I need 2 pairs Front and rear. Or just one pair and on which end? Thanks

The first thing that I would do is to check your owner's manual to ensure that chains can be used with your 2012 Jeep Sahara.

If chains are permitted, the Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains, # PW2028C, that you mentioned would be a good option for 255/70-18 sized tires.

For the best performance and traction when using these chains, I recommend installing them on both the front and rear tires as well as using Rubber Adjusters, # PW99. These rubber adjusters make fitting and tensioning the snow chains quick and easy.

I do recommend taking a look at two of our other options that are available for your Sahara. One being the Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains , # TC2326. These offer better side to side traction than that of a straight cable style due to their diamond pattern. The other option being the Pewag All Square Mud Service Snow Tire Chains, # PWE2439S. Ideal for extreme conditions, these chains provide superior strength and grip, especially on snow, ice or mud.

If you choose to use just one set of chains, they can be installed on the front or the rear. Although typically used on the rear wheels, you can use the chains on the front tires for better steering and braking performance.

I have attached a help article and a short video for you to check out.
