Can a Load Range C Trailer Tire be Used in Place of a Load Range B Trailer Tire

Question:

I need new tires for my trailer of a total weight of about 1100 pounds, so a load range B tire would be fine. Would I gain anything by moving up to a range C tire? Is either one superior to the other in terms of longevity, wear, etc, besides the C being able to support more weight? Since I could use either one and they are basically the same price, Id like to get the better option. Thanks!

Expert Reply:

If the load range B tires will sufficiently cover the gross trailer weight capacity then that is what you should go with. Going with a higher capacity tire would not allow the trailer to carry more weight because it is still limited by the axle and suspension.

You could go with the higher capacity tire but with more plies in the construction it could heat up faster and you could also experience a stiffer ride. I have included a link to the right to our help article on trailer tires for you.
