Converting US Style 4-Way Trailer Connector to a European Style 7-Way Connector on a Bike Rack
Question:
I have a US car, with a 4 pin tow socket installed. I have an EU bike rack, with a 13 pin Plug. I am looking for a way to adapt correctly. Can you assist me?

In order to get the US style 4-Way to work with the European style 7-Way you are going to have to do a little hardwiring. What you will need is a vehicle side European 7-Way and a special converter, # 118158. You will have to cut off the 4-Way on the vehicle. The wires left over should be white for ground, brown for running lights, yellow for left turn/brake lights, and green for right turn/brake lights.
On the input side of the converter match up the wires color for color. Brown will bypass the converter. On the output side you will have a yellow wire for left turn signal only, green for right turn signal only, and red for brake lights only. Wire them into your vehicle side European 7-Way according to what the bike rack needs. Don't forget the running light wire that bypassed the converter!
Remember that the bike rack will only have to have the lights working if you are in a country or area that requires it. The US does not.
