Best Location to Install Tekonsha Prodigy P2 in a 2015 Toyota Tacoma

Question:

I have recently purchased a Toyota Tacoma PreRunner truck. I will need a trailer brake controller and I am contemplating a Tekshona P2. I know that it has a lot of leeway with respect to tilting in the vertical plane but so far as I know, it has little or no leeway in the horizontal plane. What is your recommendation as to the best place to locate the device? Do you have any installation videos specifically geared to this model truck? Thank you. JAF

You are correct about the mounting angles. On a horizontal plane, the controller does need to be level. We usually prefer to see a controller mounted on the underside of the dash to the right of the driver, but because of the air bag mounted under the steering column and the curvature of the dash, you'll need to look elsewhere. Mounting the controller to the left of the steering column is a valid alternative, if you won't bang your knees on it when entering and leaving the vehicle. The Prodigy P2 includes the standard mounting bracket as shown in the video, or a mounting pocket. The pocket would place the controller a little tighter to the dash, so using the pocket might be the way to go.

Another option is mounting the controller in the storage cubby on the center console as shown in the other video I've linked for you. This involves drilling a small hole in the rear of the console so the wiring can pass through, but I think it's the best looking installation. No worries about banging your knees on it, either.
