Recommended Ways to Power a Winch on a Trailer
Question:
I have a Ford 2013 F150 with all the bells and whistles , has a trailer package , Came with 4 prong trailer connector and a 7 way trailer connector , My question is I want to power up the boat winch ,instead of having to charge and drag a battery in and out of the back , Can I power the winch off the 7 way connector with out burning out the whole system , and if so how would I do it , Ive looked on line for some kind of adaptor but did not see a thing , can anyone help on this or do I have to run a wire under the whole truck to battery , any help would be great , Thanks

The best way to power the winch on your trailer would be to have a large battery installed on the trailer that will power the winch and then use the 12 volt accessory circuit from the 7-way on your truck to put a maintenance charge on the battery.
Or if you have a winch with up to a 16.5k capacity you could get the Trailer and Vehicle Electric Winch Wiring Kit, # BDW20207. This sounds more like what you would want. This will run a power wire from the battery of your vehicle all the way back to the winch. The 12 volt circuit of your 7-way wouldn't have the amperage rating for your winch. I attached an install video for you to check out as well.
