Trailer Hitch and Wiring Harness for 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport Without Factory Tow Package
Question:
I want a hitch and components for 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. My vehicle is not set up with a tow package. How big of a problem does that cause to wire for trailer electrical harness? I still must get measurement on trailer to determine ball height. Thanks.

Yes, we can absolutely help you equip your 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport with a trailer hitch and a wiring harness to allow towing! Even if your Santa Fe Sport does not have the tow package there are simple options in wiring.
First, for your hitch you can click on the link at right to see all available trailer hitches for your Santa Fe Sport. Both 1-1/4-inch Class II and heavier-duty 2-inch Class III hitches are offered and their compatibility with your vehicle in some cases depends on whether it has the optional Step And Tow bumper.
I recommend one of the Class III hitches for both their higher capacity and their broader compatibility with accessories like bike and cargo carriers. The Curt # C13152 offers a substantial tongue weight capacity of 900-lbs and a maximum towing rating of 6000-lbs. You will want to check your Santa Fe owner's manual (or with your local dealership) for any guidance or restrictions about trailer weight. If the vehicle is rated lower than the hitch the lower rating applies to the entire system. I have linked an install video and two helpful articles for you.
For wiring you can use the Curt custom-fit plug-and-play harness # C56184. This simply plugs inline with your tail light wiring (no cutting or splicing) and requires just one additional connection at the vehicle's battery. This powered harness draws the power for your trailer's lights directly from the battery, rather than through all of your vehicle wiring, which helps safeguard the vehicle's electrical system in the event of the wiring fault in the trailer. I have also linked an article on how to route the power wire for this harness.
For towing versatility you might consider ball mount kit # 989900 which includes two sizes of hitch ball, two ball mounts with differing heights and a pin and clip, all together in a handy bag. The linked video illustrates. If you wish to select a ball mount and ball individually you can refer to the article on how to choose one to keep your hitched trailer level and use the link to our ball mount page.
