Parts Needed to Tow a 2200 Pound Camper with 2007 Jeep Liberty Sport

Question:

Hello again Because the 2013 Hyundai Tucson I have did not have enough towing capacity, I have purchased a 2007 Jeep Liberty Sport I will be pulling a camper that is about 2200 lbs. Question 1. I will need a hitch, and everything else for the Liberty including the electric break setup.

Our most popular hitch for the 2007 Jeep Liberty is the Curt trailer hitch, part # 13044.

I have included a link to the installation instructions for you to view along with an installation video.

In terms of wiring, you have a couple of options. If your Jeep did not come with a tow package, you will use wiring harness # 118524. If it did come with a tow package, use wiring harness # 118381. Depending on what kind of trailer connector the camper has, you may need to add an adapter or additional parts may be needed. If the trailer has electric brakes, you should install a brake controller on the Jeep.

Once you know what type of connector the trailer has, I can help you to determine what, if anything, is needed for the Jeep.

In addition to the wiring and trailer hitch, you will also need a ball mount, ball, and pin and clip. The recommended ball mount is # BM20. For a ball, there are 3 options depending on the coupler size on the trailer. For a 1-7/8 inch diameter use # 19260. For a 2 inch diameter, use # 19247. And for a 2-5/16 inch diameter, use # 19287. You will need pin and clip # PC3.

You will want to verify your vehicle's towing capacity in your owner's manual.
