You can easily test your Tekonsha Voyager Trailer Brake Controller # 39510 by using a circuit tester such as # PTW2993.
First you will want to test that the unit is properly receiving a brake signal from the vehicle. This input signal to the controller is carried on the red wire. Apply the circuit tester (the linked video shows how to use it) to the red wire and press the brake pedal. If you detect a signal on the red wire then you know the controller is receiving its brake signal from the vehicle.
Next apply the tester to the blue wire, which carries the controller's brake output signal for the trailer's brakes. If you detect a signal on this wire when you press the manual override on the Voyager then the unit is working properly, and the issue is downstream somewhere in the vehicle or trailer wiring.
You can apply the tester further downstream on the brake circuit wiring to find where the signal is lost. Apply the tester to the brake circuit wire leading into your 7-way vehicle socket (usually this is a blue wire). If the signal is there when the manual override is pressed, move on to test the actual contact pin in the socket.
Please note that the Voyager's light will glow green when a connected trailer is detected and red when the pedal or manual lever is activated with a trailer connected. If there is no light on the unit then you can test that it is receiving 12V power by testing the black wire that supplies power for controller operation. The Voyager's instructions are linked for your reference along with a helpful article on troubleshooting brake controller installations.
