Best Weight Distribution for a V-Nose Trailer with Short Frame Distance from Coupler to Body

Question:

The trailer frame does not have 29inch of clearance for the clamps- more like 26inch because of the vnose. Can the clamps be backed up toward the coupler on the frame or is there another system that would work with those clearances? The trailer is only about 3000lbs- 14ft cargo, but I like having the wd and sway control with my Honda Pilot. I have used an Equalizer hitch in the past on a 17foot Airstream and my Pilot and apart from the pain of the hook up, I liked the way it stabilized the camper. Thanks!

The Blue Ox systems cannot be moved back that far but we do have the perfect system for you. Take a look at the Reese SC weight distribution systems linked to the right (minus the ones that say Light Duty).

These systems have narrow brackets that can fit at different distances back from the coupler. Take a look at the picture I have included that shows the various ranges for the different capacity SC systems.

To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I have included some additional links to help articles on determining tongue weight and weight distribution for you.
