Selecting Breakaway Kit and Replacement Brakes for 8 X 16 Enclosed Trailer

Question:

Need to find gvw on axles to buy replacement brakes and break away kit. Think its a 04 Car mate 8x16foot enclosed tandem axles .

A trailer breakaway kit such as the Dexter Kit # 34-285 that you referenced should be selected based on the type of brakes on your trailer. If it uses electric-over-hydraulic brakes then the Dexter's higher 9-amp-hour capacity is called for.

Your axles' capacity should be indicated on a sticker or plate attached to them. Once you know the axle capacity and type of brakes (electric or hydraulic) you can use the link provided to view our replacement brakes. Filters in the left margin will allow you to choose brakes of the appropriate type, weight capacity and drum size.

For example, if the trailer uses 10-inch electric brakes on 3500-lb axles you can use parts # AKEBRK-35R-SA (right) and # AKEBRK-35L-SA (left). These are Self Adjust brakes meant for 4-bolt brake flanges.
