We have many 5th wheel trailer hitch options that you could use with your 2012 Ram 2500. The first thing you will need is an installation kit. For your truck there are 2 types of kits available: semi-custom and custom. The difference is that the custom kits require much less drilling and will install quicker compared to the semi-custom kits.
For a custom kit I recommend Curt kit # C16420-204. This is a custom kit and it is one of the lower priced options. It is compatible with Curt, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Reese, Valley, Pro Series, and Husky 5th wheel trailer hitches that fit in above the bed rails.
Since you have a short bed truck you will need a slider hitch. Hitches come in different capacities and with different features. I recommend the slider hitches that offer the most travel, 12 inches, for clearance when making tight turns.
For a 16K capacity hitch that features a secure dual jaw design and cushioned 360 degree head use Curt hitch # C16521. If you need more capacity go with a 20K model, # C16541. The cushioned head design will help provide a smoother ride. Be sure to consult your truck owners manual for its capacity. I have linked a video showing installation of the install kit and a link to our help article on 5th wheel hitches.
