Choice of Class III Hitch for Use with Bike Rack on 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe
Question:
I was wondering about the note on the Curt Class III trailer hitch for my 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe which states that stabilizing straps are necessary for bike racks. The DrawTite Class III hitch makes no mention. Since a hitch mounted bike rack is what Im purchasing this for, would it be better to get the Draw tite? Or would it also need the stabilizing straps for that application? Thank you

You are quite correct that of the three Class III hitches offered for your 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe, which can be seen on the link provided at right, only the Curt # C13073 has the specific requirement that a stabilizing strap be used with non-wheeled loads like bike racks to maintain warranty coverage. You also ask a very good question.
All of these hitches carry identical tongue weight and towing capacities (350-lbs and 3500-lbs respectively) and although not required to maintain their warranty, the other hitch Draw-Tite # 75684 would equally benefit from the use of a stabilizing strap. The Curt is the lowest-priced and even with the small incremental cost for strap # 18050, it will be the most cost-effective. Use of the strap will help reduce stress on any hitch and also on the vehicle frame where it attaches. Using one, even if not absolutely required, is simply a good idea from many standpoints.
To help you with your install process I have linked two articles with helpful tips on hitch installations.
