Compatibility of Curt A16 C16120 Hitch with 5th Wheel with 14.5K GVWR
Question:
I am considering the Husky brand fifth wheel hitch for my 2006 F350 long bed truck. I like the features of the HT31326-31314 16k model but I am concerned the rating isnt high enough. I am purchasing a fifth wheel camper with 14,500 GVWR. So if I understand correctly how the rating works, I need at least a 16k or should I go with something like an 18k which I cannot find on your website. Is there a rule of thumb for deciding what size depending on the GVWR I plan on pulling? Really hoping to go with the Husky since I like the style better. Oh and one more question what is the difference in the rail install kit HT31412-686 vs the HT31407-686 besides price? Thanks

If the 5th wheel you're purchasing has a 14.5K GVWR, it means that the maximum allowable weight of the trailer cannot exceed 14,500 lbs. This is well below the 16,000 lb capacity of the Curt A16 # C16120 5th Wheel hitch, so you can use it with no worries. For a 20K capacity, use # C16140
There's really no 'rule of thumb', just be sure that the capacity of the hitch exceeds the GVWR of the 5th wheel.
The # C16448-204 is a custom install bracket kit that requires some drilling into the truck frame.
I've linked to description videos for the hitches as well as an install video for the bracket kit.
