Why is Titan Extender Adapter Kit Required for Installing Access Tonneau on 2014 Nissan Frontier

I have the above with the until track system as well as the bed extender - why do I need this adapter? The bed extender looks to be below the truck sides etc Thanx

In order for the bed extender and the tonneau to work together the bed extender will have to be adjusted 4 inches narrower. The adapter part # 834532006946 allows it to be adjusted narrower and still install to the truck.
