Brake Controller Installation in 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 with Factory 4-Pole Harness

Question:

I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 w/ a flat 4 pin connector under rear bumper. I am installing a Hopkins 4 to 7 RV adapter part # 37185. Am I correct in that I need to run the blue wire to the brake controller and the black wire to the battery through a 40 amp fuse? Then plug in my TEKONSHA P3 BRAKE CONTROL with the correct harness for my truck? Thanks.

Expert Reply:

You are correct that you will need to make additional wiring connections to your Hopkins 4-to-7-Pole Adapter # 37185 after plugging it in to your existing 4-pole harness.

In your truck to install your Prodigy P3 Brake Controller # 90195 you will use quick-connect adapter harness # 3020-P, which plugs in under your dash. You will need to use 10-gauge wire # 10-2-1 (sold by the foot) to extend the brake circuit and 12V power wires back to your new 7-way. You will use a 40-amp breaker # PK54540 for the 12V power circuit.
