What Is the Weight of the RoadMaster Tow Dolly and What is Coupler Height

Question:

Hi, The shipping weigth says 149lbs. then specs says Actual weight 750lbs. Is this really that heavy? Some flat car trailers with dual axle and brakes are 800-900lbs. What is actual weight of that dolly? Also what is range of coupler height? Height at horizontal position and maximum height when tiled by loaded vehicle with acceptable ramp-to-pavement clearance Thanks P.S I am considering options for small track/race car towing.

I called RoadMaster and got the following weight measurements. The weight of the dolly is 545 pounds. The shipping weight is 694 pounds. I have sent an update email to have this information corrected on our site.

The trailer tongue and coupler height are fixed, they are not adjustable. A ball mount should be selected that has the proper rise or drop so that the dolly is riding level on the axle. The coupler height is 18 inches on the dolly. So you would need a ball mount that would keep the dolly coupler at that height.

I have added a link to a ball mount calculation page so you can see how to measure your hitch and calculate what rise or drop you need out of a ball mount.

That being the case, the angle of the ramps is set. There is a tilting mechanism that allows the bed of the dolly to tilt for loading and un-loading. Once the car is loaded the bed should be locked down so that the ramps are level with the trailer and not tilted down.
