Recommended Trailer Wiring Harness, Ball Mount and Trailer Ball for 2004 Cadillac SRX
Question:
Hi, I am interested in getting a trailer for my 2004 Cadillac SRX the v8 version. I have the hitch portion connected to the frame installed already - factory install. Now I need to learn about the other parts.. Tongue? or Ball? or??? Please let me know what I need.

The factory hitch on your 2004 Cadillac SRX would have been a Class III with a 2 inch receiver. If you don't already have a trailer connector, you can install one using part # C59236.
In order to determine which ball mount you need, you'll need to measure the height of your trailer coupler with the trailer jacked up so it's level and the height of the receiver. The difference between these two measurements is the rise/drop of the ball mount you'll need. I'll link you to an help article that shows exactly how and where to take the measurement.
Once you determine the rise/drop of the ball mount needed, you can choose one by using the link I provided. Make sure the ball mount has a capacity greater than the weight of your trailer. You'll then choose a trailer ball that has a shank diameter (threaded portion) compatible with the ball mount and a ball diameter compatible with your trailer coupler. Trailer balls are available in 1-7/8 inch, 2 inch or 2-5/16 inch diameter. The coupler on the trailer should have the necessary ball size stamped into the metal, so you'll know which size ball is needed.
