Recommended Weight Distribution System For 4700 lb V Cross TT Towed by 2013 Nissan Armada
Question:
I am towing a v cross vibe travel trailer with a 2013 Nissan Armada. The travel trailer has the following specifications: Dry Hitch Weight 312 lbs. 142 kg Unloaded Vehicle Weight 3,284 lbs. 1,490 kg GVWR 4,712 lbs. 2,137 kg Cargo Carrying Capacity 1,428 lbs. 648 kg I do not have sway control bars or weight distribution but have way too much sway. What do you recommend? Thank you! Exterior Length 20foot 5inch 6.2 m

To choose a weight distribution system, you'll need to first determine the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of your trailer. To that figure, add the weight of any gear stowed in the cargo area of the SUV or truck bed behind the rear axle. I've linked to an FAQ article that explains how to do this. These combined figures comprise the Total Tongue Weight (TTW) of your set-up. The TTW of your trailer should fall as close as possible to the middle of the effective range of the weight distribution system you choose.
Given the numbers you provided, I could make an educated guess that your fully loaded and ready to travel tongue weight is between 400-700 lbs, but I'd urge you to confirm this for yourself. (See linked article showing how to determine your trailer's tongue weight) If that's the case, I'd recommend the Reese Steadi-Flex system, part # RP66559, which has a tongue weight capacity ranging from 500-1000 lbs. This system provides weight distribution along with proven sway control resistance against moderate to severe sway. If your tongue weight below 500 lbs, go with the # RP66558 system with a 400-600 lb tongue weight capacity.
Both systems include the weight distributing shank, but the properly-sized trailer ball with a 1-1/4 inch diameter shank is sold separately. For a 2 inch ball, use part # A-90 or for a 2-5/16 inch ball, use part # 19286.
For weight distribution with an entry-level sway control that's best for mild to moderate sway, you could go with the Pro Series # PS49581 which is effective on trailers with tongue weights up to 550 lbs. If your TTW is above 500 lbs, go with # PS49582 which is good on trailers with tongue weights up to 750 lbs. Both these systems include the 2-5/16 inch trailer ball. Keep in mind, both these systems use the friction sway control, which should be disengaged before backing the trailer or when operating on slick or icy pavement.
